Never been a fan of digging old predictions tbh. For all the people on here who preach apprectiation for all cricket whoever wins or loses, it sure does happen a lot.

That said, couldn't give much of a ****. Everybody deserves their time in the sun.

I want it on record that I don't appreciate cricket when my team lose and have never preached as such :p

I would also prefer it my old predictions were never dug up

I think what most of the posters said here still stands true, we all predicted that Steyn would struggle on the Aussie pitches minus the swing, and he certainly did have a torrid time at Perth, at the G he was able to swing it, maybe it was due to overcast conditions, but he did get that outswing going and troubled the batsmen, but having said that Aussie batsmen too played their part in it by playing some very poor shots, but then that's not really Steyn' problem.
Ind33dy.

I presumed the ball wouldn't swing at The MCG, as I can't remember the last time it did. I presumed it would swing in SA and he'd be a handful.

Turned-out the ball swung at a ground I didn't expect it to, so he did well there when I didn't expect him to.

He really reminds me of Jason Gillespie, plus that bit of extra swing. Probably not as accurate as Dizzy, but bowls that full length and is prepared to be driven, and in combination with that bit of hoop, he is super dangerous, and makes him more of a "spearhead" than Gillespie ever was (whether that was through Gillespie never really having the chance, or the capabilities, I don't know).

Don't think it was ever a question of "can he" as opposed to "will he" and the answer to both is obvs yes.

Steyn will probably be more effective in South Africa.
He should be. In Aus, he's had 1 brilliant game and 2 moderate ones, which is beyond what I think could reasonably have been expected. In SA, I think he can easily bowl well in every game.

I think the main difference between Gillespie and Steyn is, that Steyn seems to catch the outside edge of batsmen with regularity, whereas Gillespie used to beat the outside edge innumerable times.

Steyn also beats the edge innumberable times - all good seam-bowlers do. He just makes a habit of hitting the stumps more often than Gillespie did.

He also has a habit of finding the edge only for it to be dropped. :(

Does he? I mean, every bowler, sadly, has catches go down, but I can't say I've noticed Steyn get more slip catches dropped off his bowling than normal.

Yeah more so for him. The batsman seem to chuck the kitchen sink at his out swingers so they fly and like today they sometimes go down. A Ntini nick or Morkel given the length they bowl seem far more 'catchable'.

Yeah. The "Steyn Haters". Notorious group of society. Glad to see them get their comeuppance.

Uh? I've not once said Steyn was incapable of succeeding in either England or Australia. I've simply said he won't be one of the best bowlers the game has ever seen, merely a very good one. Something that'll only come to pass over the next 10 years or so.
