The question is though, how has Clarke suddenly lost his touch? Tonned up only two test matches ago.

He's still carrying 4kg of turkey and pudding in his guts. Once he gets on the metamucil tonight stops feeling like he's carrying the weight of the world in his colon, he'll be back to his old self...

Everything in cricket happens all of sudden mate, Clarke's century was against the New Zealand bowling attack which is a far inferior bowling attack compared to the South African attack and still it wasn't a run-a-ball affair or anything he had to work hard for that century to, so obviously he isn't finding it very easy atm, but atleast he is willing to grit it out there and score those tough runs (which he has been accused of not scoring often), Clarke post Ashes 2006-07 in such a situation would have played a rash shot and gifted away his wicket to the opposition, but as Matt said their was a lot of maturity on display in his batting today, which is a good sign for Australian cricket.

Knowing the Aussie tail, they won't just be hanging in there, they would play their shots and bat aggressively, hopefully Clarke sticks around long enough to redeem this innings of his, otherwise it would look pretty ugly.

I think the doomsday media had something to do with it. Instead of going on how good the series has been so far cricket wise, they've been going on ridiculous witchhunts.

Don't know that the Saffies are a big drawing team here in Melbourne (which is all relative as Melbournians turn out for any decent sporting event). Certainly cf. England and India they are not.

People being keener on the sales because of the recession might have been a factor, otherwise, am baffled.

Yeah, headed down to Chadstone after and was still heaps of people there. Feel for all the men that were denied the cricket and had to follow their misuses around the shops all day.
