'tis possible he was making noises about giving it away and changed his mind, y'know.

Heard on the Radio that Andrew Hillditch said that Hayden needs to score runs in the next series or he's out. Not sure how much truth there is in that..

Wonder if the next series is the one in SA?

Hope so, I'd be really disappointed if Hayden didn't play the away leg having played the home one.

If Hayden goes they would lose that attacking imputous in the top order, which could incidently help them, it might discourage them from trying to score every innings of a test match with a run rate of like 3.5rpo

I don't know whether Hayden has been providing an attacking impetus in the last 5 months because he's rarely been at the crease more than a handful of deliveries.

To provide... anything really... as a batsman, you have to score runs. Simple as. If a batsman is not scoring runs, he shouldn't be in the side. You have to decide how long you're prepared to put-up with lack of runs (believing that they'll start to flow again soon) as a selector, and clearly batsmen like Hayden get more rope (or should at least) than those whose scoring has been less prolific.

I hope Hayden stays. He's hitting the ball too nicely to end his career with people thinking he was on the downs. Right before his injury he was really our best batsman and when he returned he still looked like it...but he's just been getting out. Either very good balls, run outs or some shocking decisions. Hayden's hitting them well enough, but I hope he plays within himself, makes the runs and shuts up the critics for the time being.

Would be a poor call if they chose to get rid of Hayden now. People are right when they say that it is pointless sacking a player that is hitting the ball so well, I'm sure that a big innings from him is just around the corner.

Both Jaques and Hughes are very good strokeplayers, and since they are the two blokes most likely to replace Hayden therefore i don't think maintaing that attacking imputous would too much of a problem, of course they won't be as intimidating or imposing as Haydos but they have the capability of being effective nonetheless...

Am happy for Dos to be given the remainder of this Series. However, professional cricket is a cut-throat industry, and if you don't perform (which he hasn't in the seven Tests since his return from injury) and you're on the wrong side of 35, then you have to expect that the guillotine will fall.

I am not an expert on Aussie cricketers in general and on opening batsmen in particular, so my 5 cents would be as follows (and take it with any amount of salt you find appropriate):

If you guys (Aussies) have somebody in the pipeline to replace him with - in other words a quality opener (or a few) in waiting....he should consider making a move - maybe similar to Pollock when he did. (which is a tad easier in a series against the WI than against SA... )

If not - stick. I believe he is a good enough batsmen (good enough like in: most other sides would take him - no questions asked) to carry on.

But....his value for series like the IPL is high now...I am ot sure it will be in 2 years. This might just cross his mind every now and again. There is a life after cricket....

Dravid won't retire next year, and Hayden will most likely be given the option of the Steve Waugh retirement scheme.

I don't think its fair to say Hayden hasn't performed at all since making his come in India, in the 3rd and 4th test he played substantial knocks in his very well known aggressive fashion, its true he hasn't done enough in tests he has played in Australia, but i still believe he has still got enough fight left in him to go out on his own terms, with his head held high.

For Australia's sake I hope Hayden hangs on and maybe even comes good, because if he doesn't, then the selectors will have every reason (in their minds) to bring in the very dire, talentless, no future option of Shaun Marsh. This may then affect the careers of Katich or Jaques in the long term with favouritism etc.

Jeez, now c'mon Marsh is everything but a talentless or a no good future option, yeah he isn't cut out to open the innings test cricket and that is something he better realise quickly otherwise he might ruin prospects of him playing test cricket for Australia as a middle order batsman.
