No, I've seen your anti-India bias, and it is not a surprise you never lose an opportunity to have a go at the team, esp when you make inane statements like Dhoni is a glorified tailender, Sehwag a flat track bully etc.
Dont make stuff up!

When all of India's fairweather fans were calling for Sehwag's head last year, I was the one of the few people who said he should be one of the first picked for Australia

I have NEVER (unlike many Indian fans) called him a flat-track bully

As for Dhoni, he is a glorified tailender - the guy is not capable of batting any higher than 7 and there's more than enough evidence to support that

I shall let the Sehwag comment pass.

As to the Dhoni comment, I can only laugh at the glorious stupidity of it. A glorified tailender averaging over 46 in ODIs, and 37 in tests!

Is there any evidence whatsoever that Dhoni could successfully bat at 6 or above in tests?

Almost as much as Gilchrist had in his whole test career.

(Puhleeeeeese fix those quotes)
1 hundred in 34 tests? Dhoni doesn't deserve a mention in the same breath as Gilchrist at this stage of his test career.

100s is not the sole criteria for comparing Dhoni to Gilly. The thing is Indian batting lineup is/has been so packed that Dhoni cannot bat above 6.

Get a grip

Gilly, Sanga and Flower >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dhoni as batsmen

36 is more than acceptable for a keeper batsman but poor for a specialist

He bats at 7 because he's not good enough to bat any higher

Who said Dhoni is a specialist batsman ffs? And Gilly, Sanga and Andy Flower are good enough to not be ashamed of being the 4th best. Dhoni has played some match-saving (ultimately matchwinning) knocks when the chips were down, recently in Nagpur and in Chennai.

Just because he cannot bat above 5 doesnt mean he is a tailender. It denotes the quality of the Indian top order, just like Adam was never able to bat above 7 for most of his career because the other 6 were better than him.

Whatever it takes!!!
Oh YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

What a pity it was that I was at Sabarimala on the holy trip when the test happened... :(

Chennai produces another enthralling test match, another Sachin special and another Sehwag special.... Good bowling, good batting, good crowds = Good test cricket!!!

Love you Sachin!!! Love you Viru!!!! And oh yes, Love you too, Yuvi!!!!

Damn, I love being proved wrong by Indian players after predicting their doom and gloom. If only Dravid will now follow suit....... :)

I don't think anyone did, but you drew the comparison between he and Gilchrist a few posts back & thats a premature one if you talking tests. If you meant ODI's, fair enough.
You don't get it. The comparison was to say how good the Indian top order and Australian top order were, that Dhoni and Gilly couldnt bat up. No comparison of their batting skills.

Comparing Gilchrist and Dhoni is about as ridiculous as suggesting that he's a glorified tailender. In fact, I think it's downright stupid to suggest he's a glorified tailender.

Agree on both counts, but don't he's good enough to bat higher than 6

It depends on who's in the top 6, doesn't it. He doesn't have the technique - we all know that. But he's been very successful in ODIs, and there's no reason he shouldn't be able to grind it out like Collingwood or someone similiar. I think he's definitely capable of big 100s, and if that's the qualification by which great playing is judged, then we're not far from seeing him produce that.

I think he's a far better batsman than Flintoff, and Flintoff separates the tail from the real batsmen. I wouldn't be surprised if Dhoni ended up with an average of 42-43 at the end of his test career.

I'd be very surprised if its above 40, I'm picking it will plateau to the mid 30s. Time will tell.
I think it'll actually keep improving with time. Provided he stays captain in the long term, I can see him play purely as a batsman in the distant future, like Sangakkara does now. Its going to be a real strain holding three jobs at once.

If his keeping stays Test quality then a batting average of mid 30's is excellent. Can't see why people would expect more.

Mid 30s is excellent for a solid keeper, just making the point that I don't think he'll quite be a Gilchrist at test level
