England calls off tour....

England team are being brave.... personally don't think tour should go ahead because cricket is the last thing people want to see right now.... They should have postponed the series until next year.

Anyway regarding the security perceptions.. wasn't the Marriton hotel that was bombed in Pakistan under quite heavy security and where the top officals usually stay.

I am not sure abt this... As they said, the MLB started days after 9/11 in the US. Obviously, cricket is not important right now but we still need the diversion.

It is not like ppl are going to forget abt the security issues in the country and the other related stuff just because a test match is going on.

And as I said, if the security experts of England feel it is reasonably safe enough for them to tour and that whatever precautions can be taken are taken then it should go ahead.

Indians (not just Indian Cricket fans) will never forget this gesture from KP and his men and the ECB. For the rest of the tour, I will be rooting for KP and his men. Hope they do well and win the Test series.
I've gained a lot of respect for the English team, but still hope we pummel them. Hope they enjoy their trip though.
Go England!!!! :)

Hope they lose both tests closely.. :)

Gotta get my tickets for the game at Chennai.
AWTA with the sentiments. A close series would enliven the world of cricket.

Haroon, Can you show when and where BCCI used its money and power to force England to tour ? BCCI are known to be using their clout and they have done so in the past for Pakistan and (kinda forced NZ to tour Pakistan, If I remember well), but in this case I dont think BCCI even tried to use any kind of influence. I think you should check your facts before making such grand statements.

Secondly, how is England's decision to tour India ruining the game of Cricket ?

Lastly,in current circumstances, I dont think anyone in India cares about watching the game of Cricket. People are more concerened about the state of the nation than a cricket game.
so we have a psykick here.. i didn't know that.. so u know what goes on behind the lock doors.. ok then answer me this.. back in march and summer there wasn't any terrorist threat then why didn't the aus/ english team didn't tour pakistan for the test series and CT? let me tell you this because PCB isn't as strong and aggrassive and bully like BCCI.. pcb isn't rich and have money and they certianly can't run icc and icc isn't their bitch..

it is politics.. and it is the crap that ruins everything and that is what is ruining cricket too... not enlgish team touring india..
to be honest i am glad to see the series goes on but what i want is the same type of fairness to all countries.. do you think it is fair that pakistan didn't play any test matches this year? noo i dont think soo but it doesn't matter to BCCI or english/ Aus cricket...it does mater to angry fans like me and rest of pakistani cricket fans who are dying to see pakistan playing a test series or match..

Yeah, there is nothing to suggest that a terrorist threat much grave than Mumbai anywhere. I believe the western teams should now reassess their attitude towards Pakistan now. And it is no doubt that BCCI's influence has clearly worked.

I think it's a bit unfair... England haven't pulled out of tours to Pakistan. That was Australia. Two totally different countries.

Champions Trophy.

The English decision to go ahead with the tour though inconsistent (keeping Pak in view )but is a right decision. Eventhough I am a Pakistani but I would admit that a stronger India is more needed to world cricket then a stronger Pakistan and with the amount of money which India is generating for the game it would be foolish to isolate them at it could be detrimental for the game's future from the financial viewpoint.

Cricket, Lovely Cricket
Given the current terror scenario in India with security being briefed up at airports etc, I don't think that England should tour India. This of course is just my personal opinion.

If that was possible, it might've been done. Sadly, other parts of the schedule are now set-in-stone. It was now or not again for a long time.

We never pulled out! It was postponed. We might have done, might not. It hadn't been decided.

Actually England did refuse to tour, along with West Indies, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. The prospect of five countries not coming to Pakistan is what caused the postponement in the first place.

Look, prove me wrong if you can, but I don't think we ever did make such a statement. If I am wrong I will accept that, but it's news to me

South Africa withdrew on Friday, unwilling to travel to Pakistan for the Sept. 12-28 tournament. It had become clear to Pakistani cricket authorities that Australia, England, New Zealand and the West Indies would also pull out if the tournament went ahead.

The ICC has postponed the Champions Trophy, which was due to begin in Pakistan in 19 days' time, to October 2009, after five of the eight participating nations confirmed during a teleconference on Sunday that they would not send their teams for the event due to security concerns.

South Africa had on Saturday pulled out of the tournament, which was originally scheduled to be held from Sept 12-28 in Karachi and Lahore, and the ICC was informed on Sunday that Australia, England, New Zealand and West Indies, too, would not be participating.

...

India, the sources said, were not willing to sacrifice Pakistan. The Sri Lankans too didn't press their case, as they supported the Pakistan view that a venue change could not be made on security grounds. The meeting was held in an amicable atmosphere because most of the issues had been thrashed out among the members beforehand, rendering the final discussions a mere formality.

....

"The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have been extremely reasonable about the whole subject, (it has been very clear) they have worked jolly hard to try to give comfort to the member boards, and the eight teams that are touring, that it would be safe and secure," Morgan said. "Unfortunately, five of the participating nations found it impossible to send their team to Pakistan because of safety concerns."

They said they wouldn't tour. What more is there?
Where did I disagree? We hadn't pulled out, but it was postponed basically because we clearly were going to pull out. I didn't say you were wrong - but we technically did not announce we had pulled out.
