England calls off tour....

This terrorist attack must have been planned months ago. Stories of two of them working in the Taj and two staying in the hotel as guests and between them bringing in arms and ammunition. The England team must have been staying there while all this was happening.

The terrorists must have been aware when the team would be staying in the hotel but didn't have any interest in them either because of the top level security or their plans were far from completion. Probably watched some of the matches.

I don't think the England team would be targetted specifically because of the top level security they have. What would be the point of waiting for a time to go by when nothing was happening to say it is safe to go back because violence could occur at any day in the year. There is no pattern. If I were a player I would go back but I suppose they would also have to think of the supporters who don't have their security.

not sure if a cricket mad country would target cricketers in an act of terrorism, but i'm not an expert, i just heard that the '05 plan was aborted due to one of the key 'players' being a cricket fan.... who knows what the plan was though, they may still be angry at kevin pietersen's skunk hairdo

Not sure which plan was aborted due to one of the would-be suicide-bombers being a cricket fan, but one of the attackers in the bombings in July 2005 was a cricketer.

Good decision, I'm sure they could have been waiting for a chance like this or of any kind, to bunk the series after their poor performance, they have nothing to play in the series now, so they decided to call it off the series. better luck next time England..

well last time eng toured they were whitewashed 0-7 so i think they wanted to improve on their previous performance so they cancelled when its 0-5 hahaha

how expected..lol i have said it before and i will say it again.. these english and aussie players have no balls to stay or play in subcontnant... it would be interesting to see if they are going to play for IPL or not..

Saw Simon Jones interviewed at the Wales-Australia rugby match, and he was asked whether he'd go for the tests if he were in the team (hypothetical, as he's still injured). He said if it were up to him personally, he wouldn't go. While he still has massive international cricket ambitions, he would have to think of family and personal life first and wouldn't think it worth it.

Thought it was interesting that someone who's been robbed the chance of international cricket for over three years by injury still wouldn't be happy to go on the tour were he given the chance. I'll be shocked if this tour goes ahead, and if it does there's no way England will be any more than half-strength.

Hope the ECB has the bollocks to make a positive decision, rather than hanging the players out to dry like they did with the Zimbabwe situation in the 2003 WC. Leaving it up to the players is only ever going to be divisive. If we tour with a team that has had one or more withdrawals there's going to be resentment amongst those who toured if those who didn't are recalled for the Windies tour or equally the selectors might feel obliged to stick with those who did tour, which would vastly reduce the quality of our test side.

Lose/lose as far as I can see. & that's without mentioning the accusations of hypocrisy the board will open itself up to regarding Pakistan.

I think there's more to it. ECB might arrive at a compromise with BCCI, wherein they would tour India but BCCI have to give something in return, could be IPL.

I find it difficult to believe the decision hasn't already been made - they're just dithering over the reasons when a simple "No" is all that's required - but I dare say someone's lawyer somewhere has ruled that one out

The current situation should warrant a "No" from ECB, but teams cannot be in denial for eternity. India is very much the cricket epicentre and it simply cannot sustain without India. So somewhere reassessments have to be made rather than completely blanking out the subcontinent.

It jolly well should be a no-brainer, but my faith in the moral rectitude of the ECB has been shaken over the years I've followed the sport by its (& its preceeding English cricket governing boards, the MCC & TCCB) hideously compromised history.
