England calls off tour....

I presume it's just a diplomatic game which is leading to these comments about possibly returning for the tests - if the ECB decide to do that then a lack of "common sense" is a failing they will share with others involved in recent events - mind you even if they did I am sure the players will have sufficient presence of mind to refuse point blank to go anyway

Im sure the Tests are unlikely unless a considerable amount of behind the scenes bargaining takes place.

However, Id be interested in how this effects certain TV deals and contract responsibilities.

Force Majeure to apply would be my guess but I am sure that Mr Z will provide us with the view of a proper lawyer

so you really believe they were out in the street asking pple if they have british/ american passport..cuz it doesn't seem a very wise thing to do.. and it shows how slow Mumbai police is.. cuz despite them out in the street for hours and hours they couldn't catch any of these pple..

there has never been any problem in regard of the security for the cricketers.. it is the whole english media and their players that are making it sound bad.. it just proves my point they have not balls to play in subcontnent.. i remember last year this time when South africa was in pakistan and stuff like this happend there.. there were more security personal for the players than pple who wanted to watch cricket..at the end nothing happend and it proves that things like this never effect cricket..
First of all, there are eyewitnesses who have testified that those responsible were looking for British and Americans.

Secondly, when that is the case, then England's players are quite within their rights to go home and refuse to tour India again. It has nothing to do with a lack of balls to play in the subcontinent. It has everything to do with not potentially putting your life on the line over what is at the end of the day, just a game.

There are plenty of companies in the US, UK and Australia who are advising that their employees do not travel to Mumbai right now. Are they pussies too? No, they're acting responsibly to safeguard their employees' lives.

i am in no way agreeing with haroon

but one fact you have to think if England team was staying in Taj there would have been 3 layer security involving Army + Police..i am sure an attack simillar to this would have never happened in that case...means the surprise attack

i hope ECB dont cancel the tour...and i have a feeling they wont be able to cancel also....
I don't think the players will want to go. People with families in England won't give a flying **** about the ECB's contractual obligations if it means putting themselves at risk.

Yeah, only if they are 100% ok with touring, ECB should take a decision. And if that means no touring for a year, let it be. It is no sissying.

Oh dear haroon.

Anyway as I say it'll be a shame if the Tests are cancelled and it's extremely unlikely any England players would be in any real danger. But you really can't blame anyone for not wanting to be within several thousand miles of Mumbai or similar cities (to whatever extent other Indian cities are similar to Mumbai, and I'm no expert) when you've just seen this.

Easy, by hitting the hotels they have done, they are automatically targetting people with US and UK passports.. Really doesn't matter about "accents" - That is ludicrous chat

Not sure if your question was rhetorical. Anyhow the England squad stayed in the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel a fortnight ago and were due to return there on 16 December.

England should continue tour: Mike Selvey

Interesting take on the situation from The Guardian's main cricket writer: link.

Raises some fair points regarding the IPL and the cancelled (or postponed, technically I suppose, but we'll see..) Champions Trophy that was scheduled to take place in Pakistan. If the test series does go ahead I think the PCB have every right to call "foul" myself.

More than fair. Unlike the incidents in Pakistan, these people were specifically targeting British/US citizens. I do think some fairness will prevail and they won't tour.

I said that if I were a player, I'd tour Pakistan. And I still would - that country is unfairly singled out and demonized. However, as a British player, I would not tour India after these incidents.

As I said before, cricket is not worth your life. Stay home with your family.

This terrorist attack must have been planned months ago. Stories of two of them working in the Taj and two staying in the hotel as guests and between them bringing in arms and ammunition. The England team must have been staying there while all this was happening.

The terrorists must have been aware when the team would be staying in the hotel but didn't have any interest in them either because of the top level security or their plans were far from completion. Probably watched some of the matches.

I don't think the England team would be targetted specifically because of the top level security they have. What would be the point of waiting for a time to go by when nothing was happening to say it is safe to go back because violence could occur at any day in the year. There is no pattern. If I were a player I would go back but I suppose they would also have to think of the supporters who don't have their security.
