"It's all White here" slogan angers West Indies

I don't, myself, see the problem with the NZ football team being called the all-whites or whatever. I'm presuming, of course, that they play in white strips - if not, then it seems to leave scope for needless stuff.

I think this "all white here" thing does just that and we'd be best without.

It's a question of how far to do you go. Personally I think it beggars belief that people object to what used to be called blackboards being PC-ised into "chalkboards" because it really doesn't matter in the slightest, unless you have a like of objecting for objection's sake. However, the "baa baa rainbow sheep" thing just seems plain silly.

What are your thoughts on whiteboards?

Where is the BCCI when you need them?? They should blackmail the ICC about banning this stuff. Its highly insulting to the odd Indian living in that area too.!!

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Living here, when I first read/heard the slogan, I didn't make the connection at all to cricket.
I found it strange, and upon learning it was for promoting cricket, found it incredibly stupid.

i must admit i cringed when i read that, but seriously, why the fvck should i ? what world do we live in, when you are trying to point someone out you say 'that guy with the mullet, the guy in the flanno, the black guy' now i have to first find out their nationality and say 'that striking young samoan/aboriginal or torest straight islander/african american/negro/' and even some of the most sensitive can still find offence to that 'I SHOULDN'T BE CLASSIFIED BY THE COLOUR OF MY SKIN, I HAVE A DREAM'

Jesus.. A sad world, one where you can't mention the colour of some clothing
haha, agreed. We live in a pretty perfect world if people have the time to get worked up about bull**** like this.

White clothing is synonymous with Test cricket.

Conversely white skin is synonymous with Otago. I remember when Tony Brown played for the NZ Maori evidently even the Maori in Otago are white skinned. You have to admit that while not only being a poor slogan it leaves itself open to all kind of racial interpretations.

I don't find it stupid at all.

It's crazy how this is construed as racist. I seems, in this day and age, that we aren't past all this bull**** yet. :(

I would of thought the context would of been cricket, not racially insult the West Indian team (what would they have to gain by it?), but what the hell would I know.

The reference to white clothing in itself, is not racist. The slogan 'It's All White Down Here' does sound racist, to me anyway.

No one has accused them of purposefully doing anything of the sort. I'm not sure who said that?

Considering how short a time ago such a slogan would have had a massively different meaning pretty much guarantees that. That's not bull**** either.

AND it's a pretty crap slogan anyway.
That's the main point I'm trying to make. If it was blatantly a reference to cricket in an obvious way, it'd be okay. However, if you hear the phrase 'It's All White Down Here', you don't automatically think of Test cricket. The only connection there is the word 'white' to the white shirts worn in Test cricket.

White sporting uniform = Test cricket. White ≠ Test cricket.

The slogan is quite lame IMO

Also a people constantly bash the Australian government for the WAP, don't forget that after WWII there was distrust about the Japanese who had attacked Australia, after time this issue became less relevant and thus immigration changed to reflect this.

But its not non-cricket fans who have got offended. Its a 'Cricket' Board.
Yeah, found it quite surprising that a cricket board representing a collection of countries whose population and team is predominantly black would take offence to a slogan of 'It's All White Here'.

I mean, it's not like black people have centuries and centuries of stigma from mistreatment from white people...

Yeah, way to victimize yourself over something that is so obviously not race related.
