We commentators can afford to laugh at ourselves sometimes. Here's what Ragu, one of our readers, observes: "One of the most asinine comments that I hear nowadays is "he will take it" when a batsman gates a lucky boundary after playing a false shot. Does he have a choice? Imagine the batsman going up the umpire and saying "Ump, I don't want that 4 as I did not play a proper shot and it flew off the edge so deduct it from my and the team's total."

Not Terrible
Right I'm off to work, somebody take up my role as charmingly optimistic and hopelessly pessimistic at the same time.

Kthxbye

Nah, way too much doubt. Close to pitching outside leg, close to going over the top, close too missing off. Certainly wouldn't have been remiss if he'd decided to give it, but perfectly understandable why he wouldn't at the same time.

I quite like Flynn. So nice to see a kiwi batsman actually value his wicket.

who was it?
I'm not an expert on commentators. The one 12th man takes the piss out of for always saying "right off the meat of the bat."

Tony Greig? The tall bald guy who always wears a hat.

Went on about how great a bouncer was from Johnson, saying it was right on the mark and all this crap. It was wide outside off, a good 5th or 6th stump, and didn't trouble Vettori in the slightest.
