Man of the Match Upson?!?

Downing's created practically everything, if you had an on-form Owen up front to take up the near post position it would be 3/4-1

Well that was surprisingly good. I think every outfield player that started, apart from Defoe, furthered there chances, Barry and Carrick particularly good at retaining possession, I thought. Downing and SWP were direct and quick. Bridge and Upson were great in defence. Gabby the big plus for me though, looks an international, hopefully ahead of Defoe and Bent in the pecking order now.

Well of course outside JT's brain freeze that gave Germany that goal, very encouraging play for some second string players.

Downing - finally has looked international quality, no pace of course but he displayed his strenghts well tonight. Capello clearly wants to have a natural left-foot option in the side so once he keeps this up i have no issue with him being in the international side (maybe he should leave Boro in Jan). Still think Taylor should be an option as well.

Upson - looking better every game. Creating solid competition behind the JT/Rio partnership along with Woodgate & King.

Bridge - watch out Ashley Cole

Carrick/Barry - both need to stay in the international side. Beckham really has to do well at Milan in his proposed new roll as Pirlo's understudy cause unfortunately with his days on the right done. Can't see a use for him anymore.

Disappointed Bent didn't start has potential to be goal-scoring target man, Defoe continues to look woeful hope he is banised.

One thing will be interesting too see in the future is now with Cole & Walcott the main wingers & Downing (maybe Taylor) playing as the natural left-wing option. Chosing between SWP, Young, Agbonlahor & Bentley is a real challenge, i'll back Fabio superior football intelligence to pick the best candidates though.

But personally i'd go for the Villa duo.

Germany appears to have a player called Jermaine Jones?

Bally traitor, what?! :p
'fraid not, his dad was an American soldier.

Aaron Hunt - who hasn't been called up by Löw yet - is a more interesting case (and a better player too), German dad and English mum. Was accused of racist remarks after an U-21 clash with England, but got the ban overturned on appeal.

In other friendlies, struggling Roma player John Arne Riise sent off for Norway for telling the referee "that's ****ing ****".

Seems like the Scousers did a decent bit of business by getting rid of the chap.

Yeah, said in the commentary during the game. Still the most anglophone name I've ever heard for a German international tho.

Have to say, for the German goal, Terry's idea of shadowing the ball was laudable, however he forgot the whole point of doing that is to stop the guy getting past, no wonder Carson paniced, should've had an easy pick-up not someone bearing down on him,

Shouldn't have come for it in the first place IMO, or at least slid in to get there a bit quicker, never such thing as time for a keeper at international level

Alty let you drink at the ground? Didnt know that, having said that, not been there in about 8 years. Crackin little ground though, shame Alty have gone to pot over the last 6-7 years, so very close to getting league status back in the 90's
They don't, i was comparing it to test cricket. There's just a dodgy little in-ground bar which met us with stunned silence and stares when we went in wearing Luton shirts.

To be fair, cricket has a much more obviously enjoyable atmosphere. At Stormont you could turn up to watch an ODI, drink as much as you want wherever you want, play makeshift cricket on the outfield during the innings break, fall asleep in the stands and chat to the fine leg fielder. It's a lot harder to see what the appeal is to an ice-cold first-round cup replay in Altrincham.

Ah, Jesus. You aren't a Luton Down fan, are you? There better be a bloody good excuse if you are, because they're evil incarnate.
Second team for the time being, been royally ****ed over by the FA, started the season on -30 points at the bottom of league two. And the guy who lives across the hall is a big enough supporter to give us all free shirts and scarves

In truth im a manyoo fan, although i doubt that's much better in your book.

And while England struggle to a draw v the mediocrity of Germany, the 2012 Champions-in-waiting, while under-strength, triumph away against the might of Bahrain.

Well Hunt is hardly a German name either. Mind you there is a German cyclist by the name of Tony Martin
