dont like the idea of having yuvraj in ..but with almost all other in good form we can take the risk..also with the form he is in surely coming @ 5 if he can score say avg 40 will be more thn enough..

Even the zimb XI have played him well by the scoresheet accounts. so yea that is an arguement but its not the best one.

Hate to speed my journey towards becoming a confirmed curmudgeon, but the precedent was set when Sri Lanka pulled out of the test series for 2009: 2020 now has priority (indeed the whip hand) over tests.
When I mentioned this at the time a few posters argued that, no, it was because the Lankans had signed their IPL contracts before the test series was hastily arranged, so the earlier agreements should have priority. Well, the CL itinery was made after our tour schedule was confirmed.
I can't be wrong about everything, it's just not possible...
Because he's the better batsman, really. As PEWS & others have observed, Samit is actually a batsman who occasionally bowls who's been uncomfortably shoe-horned into the role of specialist ODI spinner.

Yep. It's ham handedness on the part of BCCI not to have thought about this earlier, and for once, I wish English Board say "No" just to show that there are somethings beyond BCCI in the cricketing world.
Though deep inside, CL is an :offer they can't refuse".

Why not open with KP?
Give Prior the licence to go all out at the top with his strokes, let KP settle in and take control of the innings at 2, which is not THAT diff. from 3, at
least for this English side...
Ideally, I would want to try out this line up for the remaining matches and see if it doesn't help out England...

I imagine Bell and Prior will open for the rest of this series. I hope they do, and both fail miserably. With any luck, Prior'll then never play another ODI and Bell will never open again.

He doesn't have many critics for the limited overs game. He has to score consistently at the Test level to have his critics tone down.

He can score a century in every ODI game he playes from now until 2018, and it still won't make him a Test class player. That won't happen until he fixes some of his weaknesses. There are players who are better suited to real cricket, and yet this guy keeps getting chances over them.
Badrinath to go on a massive selector killing spree if Yuvraj is picked IMO.

I am just wanting to know what are the major flaws in his test match batting? inability to play swing etc and spin.

Yes, I absolutely did. And let's see how he does outside the subcontinent. He has obviously cemented his place in the team by scoring runs - albeit not against the best of pace attacks and on pretty flacid pitches. Gambhir, to me, just looks like a complete FTB. We'll see though, he has certainly scored some runs which has brought him some time
All his Tests since his comeback have all been in the subcontinent. Would like to see how he does when there is actually some bounce.

In fact, in all his 20 Tests, only one has been outside the subcontinent - and that was in Zimbabwe in 2005.

Me too. I back him to do well, you don't - will be interesting to see how it turns out. Two conflicting schools of thought in this regard as I see where you are coming from in a technical standpoint of him relying on the pitch in many occasions, but I just see him having the intangible ability to 'score runs' and 'stay in' whereever he is, whoever he is against.

Swann must play for the remainder of the series, based on my knowledge of Indian grounds except for Kanpur it think the remainder of the venues are pretty decent size venues.
So Swann shouldn't have the "achillies heel" of the Indian using the small ground advantage to hit him out of the attack.
