***Official England in India***

Yeah think we could be on for a record defeat today - Anyone know what England's record defeat, in terms of runs, is?
EDIT: apparently it was 162 runs. It was the second final of the 1998/99 C&U Series, and I'm pretty sure that margin hasn't been extended since then. I'd thought the margin of defeat in that game was quite a bit bigger than that.

It's like world cup game against South Africa all over again
 We batted first in that game.

Presuming you mean 2007, that is. And in 1999 the target wasn't particularly steep, SA's bowlers were just far too good for us.

Yeah the 2007 game I was refering to the quote of Englands batsmen blocking & leaving ball outside off stump which they did famously in that game.

But they had a little bit more of an excuse in that game because, as you said, they batted first.

Because the choice is between that and throwing your wickets away forlornly chasing quick runs when you're not remotely set.
They are chasing 380 odd...........when do you suppose they will be adequately set around the 20th over?? The asking rate then will be around 10 -12. They have to take the attack to the Indian bowlers and hope that they panic and bowl rubbish balls.

I've had no problems with Bell's innings so far, but he needs to accelerate now that he's set. Strangely, he often seems to get off to briskish starts and then actually slow down at this point - obviously can't afford that today.

The point being is that he makes a score when the pressure's off because the game is lost anyway?
The glass is always half empty with you right?

Maybe Eng just looking to better their previous scores of 99 and 98 safely.

Meanwhile Munaf does a successful rugby tackle on Kevin.

And gets a near-caught-behind on Kevin shuffle.

He's basically screwed though..

People will get annoyed if he makes a low score and say he's rubbish, even if he makes a decent score but fails to get to 3 figures, he'll be seen as failing to convert, and if he makes 100 it'll be no pressure.

Go Bell!

Can be slowed down as his placement isn't too good seems to waste a lot of really good timed shots by hitting them straight at the fielders.

All very easy to say. Hitting the ball around against accurate bowling when new to the crease is not far nigh impossible.

Fact is Zaheer and Munaf have bowled far better than England did early on, not only getting a bit of movement but also hitting the right lengths.

Had England thrown the bat they'd probably be 50-5 or so now.

That's 34-3 now anyway.
