I think its very unlikely that they would play both Watson and Symonds in the same team, but if they do something ridiculous like Clapo mentioned and leave Clark out and bring Symonds in place of White, then i think Symonds would bat at 6, Watson at 7 and Haddin at 8.
Well, they could easily play Watson as the 3rd seamer and still have Symonds.

Clarke is going to get a chance to bat twice in this game or is his twin brother too is playing......

Would be surprised if both Watson and Symonds played, unless they sacrifice one of the batsmen, which is highly unlikely. Why would you strengthen the depth of the batting line-up against New Zealand, it would be totally unnecessary.

It's Symonds or Watson for me, and I think the balance of the attack will dictate which of these two play, although Watson may feel hard done to should he lose his place.

If Krejza plays, I think they go with Watson for the extra pace option, and if Clark, Lee, Siddle and Johnson form the attack, Symonds part-time off-spin may come in handy. For me, Symonds is the more potent batsman, and while I do not think either of them are particularly penetrative bowlers, Watson has the edge after his performances in India.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
In the absence of Oram does anyone else also think Vettori should be batting in the middle order, maybe at 5 or 6, i definitely believe he has the batting prowess to do decent job but then i guess with the amount of overs he might be required to bowl in this series it might have be asking a bit too much from him.
In short, no. Will elaborate further later but I must dash out now.

I hope Watson plays in the 1st Test. He was really starting to blossom in India- he was one of our best bowlers and, while his batting was a little below par, everyone knows the guy can weild the willow. Moreover, you have to be careful with fragile types; you don't want to go stuffing them around too much.

The two sides I would have (CBA checking if I've selected already, probably have for NZ but who cares)

NZ

How
Redmond (if he fails, bring in either Papps or Watling. Guptill isn't quite ready yet)
Fulton
Ryder
Taylor
Flynn (if he fails, Hay or Broom will slot in nicely, at this stage Broom after that A tour)
McCullum
Vettori
Mills
O'Brien
Martin (dare I say it, if he has a bad away season, he's on NZ home matches only, because he's been rubbish away (bar SA) for his whole career)

Australia

Hayden
Katich
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
Watson (**** off Symonds)
Haddin
Johnson (If he ****s up, which he probably won't anyway, he's gone for a bit)
Lee
Clark
Bollinger

That was rather easy

Teams haven't been finalised as such but neither Fulton nor Bollinger are in the travelling squads to Brisbane.

Hmmm... I have a feeling he might not be as fragile as he looks. :)

Though I do agree with you... it can't be much fun for him having one senior team-mate after another come out and say how much they missed Symonds in India, not just for his play but for his positive vibe.

I'm wondering how Watling is more ready than Guptill
Better FC record, more experienced. He's not exactly in a state of perfect readiness either, but none of our promising hopes for openers are. Of the current experienced bunch, Papps is the only real option and he's iffy technically as well.

2 runs better average...after 34 games i'd expect Guptill to be averaging far more than 27, a Watling does.

Guptill probably has the best technique, and has shown the most on A tours. Hopefully after his injury he hits big runs for Auckland.

I don't think that a finger spinner will be of any use in Brisbane except to get through the overs. Which means I don't think Krezja should play in Brisbane, despite his debut. Which means either 4 quicks or 3 quicks + Watson.

IBetween Symonds, Watson and Clarke you have enough options to not have a 4th full time bowler, particularly with Watson's success in India.

Therefore, my Aus team for Brisbane:

Hayden
Katich
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
Symonds
Watson
Haddin
Lee
Johnson
Clark
