The Wheel is Forever
This forum is nice, in that there are roughly equal numbers of England, Australian,Indian and NZ fans (from what I remember of the last poll). It's nice, instead of being overwhelmed by supporters of one country.

EDIT: It's Australia, followed by England, followed by India, followed by NZ.
Here is the poll.

Congratulations to all our Indian fans, of course.

I honestly would have felt as though we got out of jail a bit if India had been quickly bowled out after tea yesterday and Australia had successfully chased 300 or whatever today for a 1-1 draw. 1-0 or so would have been a pretty fair reflection on the way the series went. There's a few positives to take from the series for Australia, but overall we were the inferior team and India deserved to win.

Looking forward to seeing the recovery in the home summer.

Thanks mate.

Yeah, wishing Punter to be back to the old NZ-bashing SA-bashing self. And more than that, Lee to get some form. It's pain to see such a world class guy toiling with mental and physical problems.

I think 2-0 is a good reflection on what happened in the series considering post-Bangalore, Australia never looked threatening enough as far as bowling was concerned, and when it did, their captain let them down in Nagpur,

I think it was a game of tactics and Dhoni & Co. outthought Ponting & Co. comprehensively.

i request the mods to delete my account as I coudn't find that option in the control panel

Neither does Ricky but he got lambasted for trying it.

I'm no fan of Ponting (especially now) but I think it's a fair point that he's been pasted all series for being too defensive (and let's face it, his whole career as captain of Australia) but Dhoni has been defensive and because it worked, he's a hero.

Things aren't as simple as "it doesn't matter what happened as long as you won.". Nothing works that way and nor should it.

Defensive fields are when your bowlers bowl to one side of the field and you pack it with ring fielders and a couple of guys sweeping...

It is not defensive but just bloody stupid to have 4 guys in the deep at the square and behind square on BOTH sides of the wicket and then have 3 guys catching in one area about a couple of feet away from each other (and they were not slips)...

What Australia did back in 2004 were defensive, choking field settings and bowling.. Have guys in the ring, have the sweepers back and have the catching men at the right positions and most importantly, the bowlers bowled the line that was asked of such fields.. I don't think they had third man and deep square leg out every time.. It was based on situations.. If the batsman was set, they reduced the catching guys and choked our batters with guys (2 or 3) in the deep AND guys saving the single.. There was no real escape and they kept bowling the same line and length over and over and over...

What India was take it to a ridiculous level with 8-1 fields.. I mean, that could have blown up our face had our bowlers not bowled with that kind of discipline.. These are defensive field settings. But Ponting in this series was mostly following the ball, keeping fielders on the boundary every time a ball was hit in that direction and most importantly, he seemed to keeping catchers in front of the wicket just for the heck of it... Perhaps that is one part of the tactic from 2004 that was simply past its use-by date.. It doesn't seem to shock or shackle our batters anymore, does it?

My biggest gripe with Ponting has been that he has shown himself to be a pretty poor guy when it comes to thinking on his feet... Not that Dhoni is too much better but at least his decisions make slightly more sense than Ponting's.. Although I do have to say the way his bowlers bowled, he could have set great fields and still looked like an idiot.. :(

A Big Bow to all the CW Indian Fans.

The defining things of this series, for me, were:

A. Lee and Clark not being the force that many (including myself) expected them to be..

B. The lack of control shown by guys like Johnson and the fact that they were so poor compared to McGrath, Gillespie and Kasper from the last tour..

C. Krezja proving so many guys (including me, although I was not as sceptical as a few others here) wrong and bowling brilliantly.. Hope the guy goes places. :)

D. Ponting showing his inability when it comes to thinking on his feet and doing away with the dressing room plans.

E. Dhoni showing that he is very much human by losing it a few times and setting very defensive fields to Hayden both at Mohali and at Nagpur, but managing to redeem himself because of a show of some quality from his bowlers..

F. Indian batsmen and bowlers put up professional displays almost every time.. If only our fielders can do the same.....

G. Dhoni showing he is a better captain than both Kumble and Ponting even though he made a number of glaring mistakes.... The captaincy standards around the world seems to be dropping alarmingly.. :(

H. Ishant and Zak being the unsung heroes.. Well not really unsung, coz Ishant got MoS but still..

:)

All in all, a great day for Indian supporters.

And a word to the Aussie supporters here, you guys have been a credit to your team and to your nation. Well played, fellas.. :)

And in fact, I am becoming a fan of the way Ponting conducts himself after losses..

Congrats to India on a massive accomplishment! What a great victory. Great way for Kumble and Ganguly to go out. I couldn’t be more pleased for them and for Indian fans. :)
