Nah, can't agree, I had no real problem with day 3, but thought today was much worse (which is basically the opposite to you, but anyways ). I don't think Hussey or Hayden "tried to get out" when they did either (as opposed to the first half-hour with Hayden, Katich & Ponting), they were playing sensible cricket, and it took a very very good delivery to change it all.

(In reply to Jono btw, forgot to quote)

What a great result for all Indian cricket fans! We were the better team for most of the series and for the first time we played completely as a team. Bowled brilliantly and most of the batsman fired.

There were still things we didn't do well though such as fielding and the form of Rahul Dravid is a concern, but overall it's a fantastic victory and one of our most memorable. As a supporter of both Indian and Australian cricket, the series was so entertaining and these two teams always ensure a clash of the titans contest.

Australia have a lot of thinking to do now and Ricky Ponting will cop a lot of stick, as he should. His captaincy was uninspired and often a bit puzzling. Although with NZ coming up as next opponents, I think Australia will get back on the winning track.

So happy right now though! A fantastic test series and a well deserved victory for India!

I love the NZ team as well Raghav, infact after India and Australia they are the third team I support. However without Stephen Fleming and with their current form and their struggles against Bangladesh, facing Australia away is going to be a tough ask.

Whatever it takes!!!
Simply put though HB, the courts don't actually dictate if something did happen or not. They just determine if there is enough proof to charge someone with an offense.

I agree with that Kazo.. but my point is, there is no real way Ponting would KNOW that Harbhajan did say it. He may well trust his team mates all the way but still, he doesn't know.. so why keep harping on it as if there was injustice meted out to him and his team... If you can't prove it, you have to let it go..

Yep! its really tough... I know mate.

But, I need to congratulate the Indian team for producing such a fantastic performance. Never seen the Indian bowlers so dominating in a test series ever before. Generally, it was spinners who performed well on Indian tracks. But the special thing is: we have a witnessed a fantastic series where a Indian seamer won the Man of the series award (which is rare). I cant remember a Indian seamer who won the man of the series award in India recently...

It's not that he won, but how he won.
He won because he outthought the other captain by a mile.

Remember that the 8-1 was in place only for about 30 overs or so. Once the openers were divorced, Dhoni started attacking again. So it's the worst excuse to put blame on.

Kudos to Dhoni, he's a great captain who thinks 2 overs ahead of play. It's a hard fought series, there was a lot of high scoring in these tests, and Tendulkar generally did well, although I have to feel sorry for Sourav for getting a golden quack on his last test match(?) he'll ever play.

Well, finally to watch some cricket on AUSSIE television, a shame Nine didn't broadcast these series, NZ and AUS test series should be fun to watch, I haven't seen NZ play in ages now.

Good lad. Good luck to your boys next Thursday, can't help but feel you're in line for the backlash.

This morning when Harbhajan and Sehwag were bowling tripe outside legstump/off-stump, and just 20 overs were bowled in a session, which included an almost 10 minute drinks break.

Also, yesterday evening when we saw White, Hussey & Clarke performing miracles (for India at least  ) as opposed to Watson/Lee.

Don't get me wrong, the better team won, but I just can't see how much of the cricket in the past 2 days can be seen as "good cricket".
it was clear from the start of the day that australia was looking for win..and what was the problem in trying to restrict that and it was not that hayden scored all his runs with perfect shots atleast 20 runs was from wrong shots

and ponting brought the troubles up on in him yesterday at tea time austrlia was 9 overs down for the match where as dhoni was +3 for the match...

Yes it's a serious accusation to make, but if a captain is told by a member of his team that he's been racially abused, what is the captain to do other than tell the umpire? Baring in mind of course he can't know what has or hasn't been picked up by the stump mikes at the time.

Again, I understand that.. See, I have no problem with him making the complaint and believing the word of his fielders on that but we have had a bloody judge hear the complaints and declare that there is no proof.. Surely he can let it go by now instead of bringing it up as if they have been wronged somehow.. Surely, there is no way he KNOWS what was said and by whom and therefore, it is better for him to simply let the matter go..

I understand it was his diary and these were written long time back but surely he could have edited that now or added something else about letting it go...

Cutting down the over rates to such ridiculous levels is height of cynicism. I am an Indian and thrilled at the win in the Test and the series but I find such tactics abhorrent.

Having said that, lets also understand that Australia are in no position to criticise these tactics. Something about glass houses....

ICC needs to have policies and implementation that will make captains **** in their pants when over rates are dropping. Till then we will all continue to behave as hypocritically as always - criticising when the other side does it and justifying when we do it.

Chappell (Ian) suggested suspending captains for not meeting over rates as long as 17 years ago. Not having done anything about it why should we be surprised if captains continue to be so obnoxiously cynical.

If its the second, that complaint is proposeterous, and is an holier than thou attitude as to what its like being a test captain when Hayden is smashing your bowlers to all parts in a test you can't afford to lose.
Was going to reply to this earlier, but then "Database Errors" and then dinner intervened. Really don't think I'm being holier than thou. I've made it pretty clear that I think both captains have at times been too ready to be overly defensive, and was pretty strident in my criticism of Ponting's few overs of madness yesterday.

You say that the abberent hour today was due to the bowlers bowling poorly - I say it was a poorly set field for the situation - as you say, it was open to Hayden and Hussey to knock the ball around and score at the rate required to win, but it wasn't them going for big shots that brought them undone, it was a quality delivery to Hussey, and stuffed up attempt to knock it around by Hayden.

The negative line being bowled at that time made the situation more ugly, and I don't accept that this was a result of the bowlers erring when Dhoni was standing outside the leg stump before they bowled. As I understand it, in the end the umpires actually warned Dhoni to stop that soon before he took Sehwag off.

And the Indian team certainly appeared to be trying to slow the match down when Hayden and Hussey were together. I imagine if it had continued much longer, they might have been looking at a time-wasting charge. 10 overs in an hour with two spinners operating is terrible. I understand why they'd be tempted to do it, but its a bad look for test cricket.

I like Dhoni and think he's a good captain. I think he let himself down for a period today, and briefly gave Australia a window of hope. Once he regained his nerve, he got the result that India deserved. And kudos to him for that.

I don't think it can be holier-than-thou to hold him to the same standard as my own team. To be clear, I'm not saying that I think that India somehow don't deserve the win because of it. What Ponting did yesterday was worse, and my objection is as a cricket fan, rather than an Australia fan.
