You're still blaming the players. Why should they respect their masters when their masters aren't worthy of respect? It's a far more complex issue than "Bad players. BAD!".
Who else is to blame? If you don't want harsher penalties, then what is the downside for the players? If I were a player, I'd do it too, and if the captain of India didn't in this situation, he'd be a moron.

No, the stupidest thing is that you can bowl less than the allotted overs.

As I said, treat them like kids and they'll act like it. Imposing more rules on kids just makes them act up more.

So they'll keep doing it despite copping five runs an over fine?
Probably not. Something else will give, though. Killing off one problem in that manner will likely cause a few others. I'm speculating, of course, but not without reason. We've already seen it; there have never been more regulations and red-tape regarding sledging yet it appears to be worse than ever. The sledgehammer doesn't always work.

I think you'll just as likely see captains giving away 25 runs if they think it's going to better help them get the opposition out quicker.

Australia will win this Test. Massive six.

If India allow Australia to win, they don't deserve the tropy despite being on top for most of the series. Good work here by the Aussies. It doesn't look like India have any answers. They are scoring in huge chunks right now.

Yeah, spot on social. It's looking good right now but Australia still need more than 200 runs. That's a LONG way to go. They could add another 100 runs going like this and still be up against it if a wicket falls.

I'm taking a holistic view on this one. There have been many signs for a few years now that all is not right within the playing groups and their relationship with the ICC and local boards. CricInfo has written a few articles about it, surveys have been done, the picture has been negative for ages. The rise of sledging despite tons of red-tape is one, over-rates is another. I think the game has bigger problems than whether in one series a team gets through all their overs.
