Paine's pretty good with the gloves for a 19 year old who opens the batting as well (in both forms sometimes), and certainly has scope to improve. Would probably be one of the worse ones in domestic cricket, but that's not saying much because most of the keepers in domestic cricket are pretty good with the gloves.
Paine's nearly 24 now. Evidently misunderstood what I'd read about his wicketkeeping. Maybe it was that he scored plenty as a specialist bat when Clingeleffer was in the side but struggled when he was given the gloves. Sadly there's no way to look that up without going through every game.

Hmm thought he was way younger than that for some reason, oh well.

The only picture of him I can find he still looks about 17, so that might be part of the reason.

Always been a fan of Paine, has the talent with the bat imo, just a bit of a shame his 'keeping isn't up to standard though. Jack Mac able to give us some insight as to how good Wade is? Seems like he's a pretty good batsmen, broke one of Pontings old youth records the season before last IIRC, also played 2/3 good knocks for Victoria last season, and he's not even 21 yet. Have no idea about his keeping though.

Incidentally, Manou got the first 2 votes and as of this post hasn't got any more.

And what's happened to Adam Crosthwaite and Sean Clingeleffer? Have they both been dumped on the presumption that it's for good?

I presume Daniel Smith has been left-out on the presumption that the 2nd-best NSW wicketkeeper can't also be the 2nd-best Australian wicketkeeper BTW?
Yeah I voted for Manou, think he's very good behind the stumps and obviously his batting has improved in the past 18 or so months.

Crosthwaite still gets picked in the OD team, where he makes some handy run a ball 20s, but Wade is preferred in the longer format. Clingeleffer has dropped down the pecking order for Tassie, I'm happy about this.

Was going to include Dan Smith, but honestly he had no chance and I really think that the selectors would look at Hussey before him, haha.

Dunno about 'by far'. Hartley's pretty good but, generally speaking, Manou is pretty good with the gloves too and from what I've seen, hard to separate them.

Look, gimme a break. It was hard enough for me to say something complimentary about Manou, don't need crap from you about it. haha

No problems :p

Manou is quite a decent keeper I must admit.

Break pass given :)

Either Ronchi or Manou, IMO.

Hussey would be a good choice, guessing he'll be rather good.

Haha, yeah was about to say the exact same thing, still looks like a boy straight out of school...

I voted Tim Ambrose. Guess it is now a tradition for England to pick 'keepers who grew up in Australia.

In all seriousness, it will be Luke Ronchi, since they called him up for the West Indies when Brad Haddin got injured and nearly missed the final Test.

They also took Casson.

Ronchi, as his keeping isn't bad, and his batting is far superior to everyone else on the poll.

Well from what I have read, Ronchi is a solid keeper, and the second best in the country. I'll vote for him, and he will be good at number 7 or thereabouts to score quick runs.

Have those who've voted for Hussey voted in seriousness?

I don't think you should ever, ever go into a Test, except perhaps (just perhaps) if you know for certain it's just a one-off, with a rank part-time wicketkeeper. You can do it in a ODI where he has to keep for just 50 overs and not often under circumstances that particularly test wicketkeepers, but it's always a recipe for disaster in a Test IMO. We've seen how bad poor-quality "specialists" like Deep Dasgupta, Parthiv Patel, Geraint Jones (for a time), Matthew Prior, Kamran Akmal, etc. can make their team's situation.

An acceptable-quality specialist wicketkeeper who does the job day-and-day-out is one of the basic prerequistites for a Test side IMO. If your #1 wicketkeeper misses more than a one-off Test, I'd always go to domestic cricket's specialists rather than giving the gloves to a competent catcher from the batsmen.

Also think the votes Paine's received are ITSTL. Paine averages 26.44 as a wicketkeeper in his 10 matches, as opposed to 33.25 as a specialist bat in 12. I'm not sure Tasmania aren't wasting a potentially excellent batsman by having him keep wicket, never mind whether he'd do a particularly good job as a Test batsman if keeping wicket.
