Kumble calls it a day!

irfan

State Captain
Teary-eyed and devastated, yet very happy about his decision. Kumble has been such a warrior for India over the years, a legendary spinner and the most admirable cricketer in my time watching cricket. The timing of this decision elevates his status even further - can't say much more, absolutely love the man.
Deadset legend. Hope he gets a wicket or two!!

Totally agree

There will come a time in the very near future when Dhoni wishes he had Kumble there to throw the ball to or to shore up the lower order

Some champs are appreciated more after they've gone and Kumble will probably be one of those
AWTA fully. He was the unsung legend, and who did more service to Indian cricket than any of the Fab 4. Dhoni will find it a challenge without Kumble, though Harby looks capable to fill in the shoes.

BARNES OUT
I suppose this means that he wouldn't have played the next game anyway due to his injury. Sad really, as he probably deserved to go out with the series win (if they get there).

Very sad to see this happen. Such a champion of a bloke i swear. Will be missed terribly. Worst part is that i have to see this again next game when Dada retires.

Just watching the parading around of Kumble! Gee, I've never seen him continously grinning like this ever before!!!

Just a hack, really, wasn't he?

Kidding, kidding. Amazing control and made the best of what god gave him. India's greatest match-winner hands down for me. Sorry to see him edged towards the door marked "retirement" in a similar fashion to Lara tho. Allowed the fig leaf of going of his own accord, but really think it's a "go or be dropped" edict.

Agree with Social, actually. His worth will become apparent by his absence. Legend. :)

good on him. The time was right after a stellar career. I now just hope Tendulkar holds off his retirement a bit so we can see him in New Zealand.

*sniff*

:(

Looking back at old pictures... Kumble certainly knew how to wear a good moustache!

I have a feeling Dravid might stay until after the England series but Tendulkar and Laxman could justify even a year longer, if they wanted it. As has been said so often, if there's anyone who can truly dictate the terms of his retirement, it is probably Tendulkar. And Laxman is comparatively younger than the rest of the five.

Kumble was my favourite Indian player while growing up and I loved watching him bowl. He was such an important part of my childhood growing up and was an inspiration to all young cricketers and cricket fans.

A true legend and one of the toughest cricketers to ever play the game. I can never forget the match where he broke his jaw only to come out and spin India to victory against the West Indies. His toughness was on show yesterday where with a badly injured hand he ran and caught the ball of his own bowling.

In addition to his toughness, he was one of the most dignified, respected and nicest blokes you could ever meet. I feel honoured to have met him and talked to him on a couple of occassions. I certainly hope he continues with cricket either in the media or in a coaching or administrative role.

Farewell, Anil. Cricket is going to be poorer without you.
