Agreeing with Richard here. Bowlers win you test matches. As Ian Chappell said during the 06/07 Ashes you are always going to find you batsmen to win make you runs but finding quality bowling is much harder.

- Australia just losing McGrath/Warne has immediately transformed them from a great side to just a good one.

- West Indies of 1950s with the 3 W's, a tremendous batting side. Who if they had a a good pace attack to back up Valentine & Ramadin would have challenged Australia & England much better.

- India with the Big 4, couldn't win many games away from away from due to lack of bowling strenght.

Whatever it takes!!!
A true champion. Never backed down and always played with the utmost competitive spirit and yet always remained a gentleman both on and off the field. Model professional... And one of India's greatest cricketers...... All the best, Anil.. :)

Kumble withdraws

Don't see a thread for it anywhere, but Anil Kumble announced (unsurprisingly) that he would not be eligible for the IPL auction (it's on cricinfo somewhere), which pretty much means that the curtain has come down on his long, illustrious playing career.

Just wanted to raise a metaphorical glass & say 'Salut' to a fine, fine cricketer's stage exit.

Generations of kallisballers to come will scarce believe that such a kallisballer in flesh and blood walked upon the kallisball field.

Plus Kumble wouldn't have been able to slog any runs, and we'd likely have been bowled out for 280-300-odd.

However Kumble is awesome at bowling to the tail, so maybe SA would have been bowled for 280-300 odd.

Hence likely no difference.
