Breaking news on TV. Indian captain Anil Kumble has decided to retire after the Delhi test match.

Champion player, I grew up adoring him and now I feel really pained. A true legend and a great sportsman.

I guess we could all see it coming. Champion of the game, and the end of a fantastic career, well done Anil :)

One of cricket's greatest fighters. Steve Waugh has commented on Kumble being the most competitive player he has ever coem across and this is coming from the iceman. Though he didn't have the skills of Warne and Murali, he certainly did have the fight and courage at a level those two couldn't achieve. It amazes me, that someone who as a spinner was limited in his spinning ability took so many wickets.

Overall, the retirement of India's greatest cricket?

Calling it a day at the perfect time. Proper legend of the game, so sad to see him go. We need to win this series for him and Sourav now.

End of a great era, hopefully the start of a new Dhoni inspired India now.

Thanks for everything Anil!

He was underrated always during his career, and showed his commitment throughtout, to that extent he was taken for granted. LIONHEART.

He retires with a wicket of his last ball!!

Damn, tears welling up (no joke) in my eyes! What a guy he's been. Damn, always saw this coming, and when it comes it so hard to digest.

I was wrong with his last ball wicket. He has declared the Indian innings, and he could be in for a quick spell!!! At his FAVORITE ground!!! (He could end with a wicket still of his last ball)

I think what was really annoying was the way in which the media have hounded him out, he for ffs deserved more respect than this, nobody dares to say anything negative about Sachin, and i don't think it should have any different with Kumble.

Not much more that can be said about the man that hasn't been said already. A true legend, an utterly unique bowler, an ultimate professional and one of his country's greatest ever players. Cricket will be the poorer without him, but his career will always be treasured. Farewell, Anil, and thank you.

Totally agree

There will come a time in the very near future when Dhoni wishes he had Kumble there to throw the ball to or to shore up the lower order

Some champs are appreciated more after they've gone and Kumble will probably be one of those

Teary-eyed and devastated, yet very happy about his decision. Kumble has been such a warrior for India over the years, a legendary spinner and the most admirable cricketer in my time with cricket. The timing of this decision elevates his status even further - can't say much more, absolutely love the man. I'd say he's actually gone out on a high - his performances have been poor lately but a series win here would be huge and this is a perfectly timed decision IMO.
