He was clearly the provocateur though. Just because his didn't hit Gambhir doesn't absolve him from what he did.

Ofcourse it doesnt absolve him but there is a huge difference between what watson did and what gambhir did. That sort of argy bargy stuff goes on in cricket of all levels and cleary watson never intended to hit gambhir as HE is seen moving his arm back. however what gambhir did was totally unacceptable and more to it unprofessional... i mean kids look up to this guy and he just hit someone on the field i think its despicable he should be... nay he must be suspended.

Nah, it was the conventional swing that they were getting, owing to the conditions (foggy). Once the haze was off, the swing became nullified.
fair enuff i missed most of the early session but i still beleive they needed to try to the reverse it and yet the bowled johnson so much and we all no he wont be moving the ball around... i think we will see india getting the ball to talk all through the innings but the spinners shud win this for india - easily.

GG was equally guilty, if not more, as he actually hit Watson. And worse, he was lying in the PressCo that he didnt mean it. My foot, whom are you trying to kid GG?

Katich too needs to be booked for wilfully obstructing the batsman. There was no way Katich was fielding that ball, nor he was trying to be at the stumps to collect the throw.

Well i guess its just you would hope that Mr. Bedi's visit would have been pre-arranged and the captain should have been informed of it... Maybe he could have gotten some pointers for his own spin if he was prepared
Well, Ponting's words do seem to be twisted here, It does seem like that Ponting was talking about his ignorance of the details of the discussion between Jason and Bedi:-

"I'm not sure how it came around that (Bedi) was there... speaking to Jason, Bishen's been helpful and he's also had some good things to say about Jason which has probably been good for him,"

If you look at my response earlier in this thread, you will find out that I have made no excuses for Gambhir's action. IMO he should be punished.

Johnson was used relatively early inorder to bang the ball in with a cross seam, so as to make a part of it rough to aid reverse swing. Did'nt get to see many visuals/closeup of the ball to know whether he succeeded in that, or actually even bowled cross-seam. Everyone were busy admiring Little Master at work.

Wow. That's a shocking article by Suresh Menon then. What a tool.

Yeah, it's kinda sad how quickly everyone is to jump on Ponting at this point. If anything it dilutes real criticisms of his behaviour, because it just reads as "another person complaining about Ponting". The guy makes a perfectly innocent remark which should have been evident as such to the author (assuming he read the comment in context), and it results in a lengthy, scathing article.

Yeah! Not even checking the full quote and go bang bang! Should give competition to the likes of Jo Pierick at Herald Sun and Malcolm Conn of the Australian.

Jo to win hands down for his fabrication of the century : Tendulkar and Ganguly plotted to assassinate Dravid's career or something on a similar line.

haha yeah that's not bad although I thought Conn's lengthy piece a while ago about how Warnie used to ingratiate himself with the new hot players in a touring squad to help him score chicks was pretty good too.

Wait, I thought it was only Australian journalists were terrible?

I think jnr go it spot on in another thread where he said Ponting is everyone's favourite punching bag. The guy can't do a thing without some hypocritical hateful so 'n so jumping all over his back making out like he's the devil in disguise.

Yeah but that's what you'd have to expect when you turn on the media. They'll turn right back on you and they're pretty influential. They're like The Mob; the Black (and white) Hand.

Oh, and has anyone got a link to some footage of where Watson insitgated the whole elbow thing? I've only seen 1 angle at normal speed and it didn't look like he'd done a thing there.

Thing is, it's been happening for more than just the past 6 months, which is the annoying part.

True although I'd guess Ponting's been on their hit list for a while now. probably ever since there was a flurry of articles about how poorly behaved he and his players were in reacting to decisions which didn't go their way a couple of years ago. Ever since then, it's been tense.

I saw the match replay, I didn't see Watson attempting the elbow, but he instigated the verbal for sure. Gambhir then turned for the second run and elbowed.
