Assuming that White is one of the four bowlers, this is today's bowling figures...

B Lee 19 1 70 1 3.68
SR Clark 21 8 29 0 1.38 (1nb)
MG Johnson 17 1 69 2 4.05
CL White 4 0 27 0 6.75
Fifth bowler 28 5 92 0 3.28 (3nb)

I don't know why Ponting is bowling his fifth option a third of the overs on the first day, seems ridiculous.
Yea, that's shocking.

BARNES OUT
tbf to that list, I thought Watson was the best if not second best bowler today. Was sharp and accurate all day, unlucky to end up with such barren figures.

I'm not knocking Watson. From what I saw he bowled pretty well. It's more that it's not a great advert for the rest of the bowlers when he's one of the better ones.

Would have called White/Clarke/Katich the 4th bowler tbf. Wish overrates weren't such an issue, then we would get to see our best bowlers putting out the vast majority of the overs imo.

What score would you be happy with for India? I'd be comfortable with around 400-420, though I wouldn't be happy with anything less than 500 on this pitch. Anything less, and Australia can come back strong and put us under a lot of pressure in the second innings.

International Coach
think we need to score around 450 another 150 from here and should gain a minimum lead of 100 to be safe then dont see austalia chasing anyting above 250 on this pitch this will turn for sure on the last 2 days

India looks on target to add 150-200 or more to their total with 7 wkts remaining and the Australians pacer having little clue so far on how to pick up wkts .... 2 regular batsmen are playing, with Ganguly set to come in. if one of the three has a good day tomm and bats well with the WK all-rounder and the tail, an useful total looks on cards

with Mishra in the line up, the ball is going to turn and do something when the Australians bat in their first inning. not to forget that Zak and Ishant are bowling well as a combination

Whatever it takes!!!
BTW, to those who watched the game, how bad was Gambhir elbowing Watson and how bad was Katich getting in the way of Gambhir?

From what I read in cricinfo, it seems like the Aussies are saying they expect Broad to take a look at incident 1 but not saying anything about incident 2... From what I have read, both seem to be equally bad.. Or was Gambhir elbowing Watson so much worse than Katich deliberately getting in the way of Gambhir?

GG elbowing Watson was unwarranted, but I think Katich's was equally horrible. Maybe the match referee adds two and two, and let both of them go. I really would feel sorry for Aussies and their "hard boy" image, if they complain to match referree for that "elbow" thing.

Good comeback from India after being 27-2. Tendulkar was superb until when the thoughts of gettnig to tea safely got into his mind, and he went runless for a long tim. Kudos to Australia, who managed to get him strokeless and thus make a mistake.

Awesome century by Gambhir, esp in the third session, he upped his SR considerably. And Laxman too clung in. The wicket became a belter as the day wore on. I'll be really surprised if India does not get 500 tomorrow. And by taking sweet time, they've ensured to a large extent that Australia will get to bat only in the last session of Day 2 and thus ensure the Indian spinners some purchase.

Clearly good toss to win.

They are in the link on this article.

I'd be surprised if Gambhir got away with the elbow, I'm sure you normally get fined for physical contact like that. I guess it depends in terms of Watson and Katich getting into trouble as to what they actually said.

Expect Gambhir to get a big fine or suspension while Aus players aren't likely to be asked come and see the match refree. Wonder if anything is going to be done about slow over rates.

Good day for india.. shame about Sachin missing out on a century again. Great century by Gambhir, needs to go on and get the double to put india in total control :)... 500 is minimum from this position.

Two words chris Broad.
Gambhir is likely to get a suspension for "trying to kill watson" ,while the aussies are going to get invited to a dinner to have a word on slow over rates and indiscipline and foul mouthing.

So once again Aussie players are targeting the best player with pretty much every kind of verbal abuse that is there in the book. Gautam is one of the coolest guys around in International cricket right now and If he is getting all fired up, then it tells a lot about how much of target he has been in the middle.

It was funny to read some of the headlines in the Aussie newspapers, targetting Gambhir while giving a free pass, once again, to their players.

Usual "Australia alone played in the right spirit" stuff? Yawn boring.

Gambhir should get a suspension for what he did, there should be no excuse really, but so should everyone that provoked him and tried to disrupt his batting by targetting him with verbal abuse.
