Neil - I assume you'll go, any chance of a lift? Seems my Exeter friend is desperate to get to a game, plus i'm interested to see just how much of a pub car park Curzon Ashton have. Added bonus, i can read a map, although i think i recall you having a GPS.

Afraid I'll be working. Saturday school for ya - does rather limit the number of aways you get to when you get landed with a senior games group (and therefore Saturday afternoon sessions and matches)... this year the theme continues beyond Christmas as I have the football 3rd XI rather than the middle school catch-all group I had last year that left short trips (like Rushden) very much in the realms of possibility.

I can commit to Chester away on February 21 which is suitable lift-wise, and Rochdale away on March 28.

Has anybody seen anything on Italian striker Alberto Gilardino's 'hand-of-God' on youtube, had a brief check, found nothing. The **** got a two game ban though.

Imagine this friend will be going to the Chester one (seeing as he's based in Liverpool currently) so that's a go-er. (y)

Adams set to be unveiled as Pompey manager at 1300 GMT.

Delighted TBH, will give us some stability and will provide a well-liked and well-respected figure for the fans to get behind. Onwards and upwards. :)

Tom Halsey

International Coach
Inclined to agree with Mitchell, not sure about him as a manager, though that said he has only had the one job so far, not everyone makes the best of their first job, Wenger the prime example I'd have thought. Needs time.

Was going to say, Wycombe were a joke under him. Was a while ago, though, so may have spent time in the interim learning.

Much as I'm a huge fan of Tony Adams...I just can't see this going well somehow, I wish him all the best as he and Portsmouth both deserve sucess, and I hope i'm proved wrong, but I just can't see this turning out successfully.

Only player i remember Wycombe having at that point (saw them that season) is Nathan Tyson, who's now plying his trade in the Championship. Was a decent enough squad, a WDL record of 12-21-20 isn't exactly inspiring.

For all those concerned by Adams' record at Wycombe, may I point out that he never really played lower-division football as a player, and it stands to reason that he would struggle to get to grips with it as a manager.

Many managers have made successes of bigger jobs as their first in management - look at Jurgen Klinsmann with Germany, or Marco van Basten with Holland. Personally, I think it's a great appointment, especially given that the alternatives were Sam Allardyce and Avram Grant.

The same Avram Grant that's got to the Champions League final?
Yes, the same one. Doesn't make him a good manager, just because he managed to do well with an outstanding team. Not that I'm saying he was bad, just that neither he or Allardyce were the right men for the job. Our squad's not suited to either dirty Bolton football or boring defensive football.

It's a massive generalisation in one part, but it's perfect for dirty Bolton football regardless. Hoof it upfield to the lanky guy, who'll head it on for Defoe the small quick one.

Halsey beat me to the reply i was going to make about Avram.

Have friends that have bet on him being the next United manager. Personally i think he'll stay at Inter longer than this season and the next unless something unforeseen happens.
