Ganguly to retire after Australia Tests

I love Ganguly but it's hardly McGrath and Warne going on the same day. If they stagger these retirements over a couple of years, I think the pressure will be fine.
its the Indian media that will add more pressure on Gangu and Co in the middle order than the aussies if Gangu fails to score big in the first test...

I think it'll be best if they leave each of Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman and Kumble in the side as long as he merits a place and no longer.

Sometimes its more than runs and wickets which merit a place. The stability, continuity, and experience they provide might be more important. And again, this would only be for a series or two each, so not a long term thing.

For my money, you don't contribute stability or continuity if you're not performing - just resentment and disillusionment.

And experience, as I mention earlier, can be drawn on without people having to be playing in matches, if the management is good.

Ganguly is selected for the first two test matches alone .
Now that he announced his retirement, will the selectors let him hang around in the last two matches as well even if Gangu ends up with some poor single digit scores?

Classic quote from Ganguly, i had a genuine lol at this, a definite pot-shot at Dhoni there.

Ganguly is easily one of my favourite players, so it will be sad to see him go. Loved when he was captain of India in the 2001 tests, still love his reaction of catching Mark Waugh at leg slip of Harbajhan (think it was for a duck) it was like he had won the lottery.

That's a little bit worrying. Much as he may be right about Dhoni not scoring, criticising those you're about to play with publically is never, ever a good idea.

Fair enough criticisng Dhoni in Test matches. But how he can discount what he's done for our ODI team is ridiculous. Love Dada but he comes off as a bitter dick in that article. And the timing couldn't be any worse tbh.

AWTA, he could have come out with some book after retirement and said all these things in that, would have made some money that way too.

Knowing Doni's frank responses in the past, its only a matter of time before doni comes out with something in retaliation. I hope no such thing happens atleast until the end of the on-going all important series.

Well one gets the feeling he might well do that anyway, but some things would indeed do best to wait to such a time.

what makes you think that?

I don't think it's a pot shot at Dhoni coz in ODIs, Dhoni is probably amongst the best Indian batsmen .... It's probably at Uthappa, who keeps changing his hairstyle and came into the ODIs as one of the openers .... And saying that players haven't scored much for the last year is probably a take on Dravid
