Ganguly to retire after Australia Tests

may be from the mentioning of the hair-style :p, i guess
how many times has Dhoni changed his hairstyles? He had long hair earlier and was consistent with that hair-style and wow he has short hair and he is still consistent with that

and as I said, Dhoni has scored a lot of runs in ODIs so if Ganguly meant Dhoni then he probably hasn't done his HW well .... 2ndly Dhoni doesn't compete with Ganguly for a place in anyway in any form of cricket, so there are little chances of Ganguly taking a dig at Dhoni

As I said, it's probably guys like Uthappa who replaced him in the ODI and guys like Dravid, who have been persisted with despite not being top notch. If I were Ganguly, I would be upset too, if a Dravid get selected ahead despite some poor performances

Yes, Ganguly did have a bad series in SL but he was much better than Dravid against SA, where he did well in the game that India won. Dravid did comparatively better in SL but hardly made an impression

I dont care much for hair-styles buddy.....i cud care-less if he has braids on or a mo-hawk like uthappa tried to :p

I dont blame ganguly to be upset about the way he got dealt by selection committee etc....but i dont think it is the right time to go to the media about his feelings and opinions...

so why then connect hairstyle comment with Dhoni

and yes, it's not a good idea to take a dig at your team mates. it's the selection committee that picks and not players so it's definately a bummer .... by saying that Ganguly has a right to be upset with guys like Dravid being persisted with despite ordinary performances, I don't imply that Ganguly did the right thing by taking a dig at some guys in media

Moreover such comments could hurt his chances for getting picked in the next game, if he doesn't deliver at B'lore :p

That's a little bit worrying. Much as he may be right about Dhoni not scoring, criticising those you're about to play with publically is never, ever a good idea.
I suggest we all remember it is a Bengali publication. The vernacular press in India is not particularly well known for being accurate in quoting celebrities. I would wait for Ganguly to react to being asked whether he said that as he surely will be.

Its not that Ganguly cant say such a thing in private but to say it before the media that too when he is playing his last series, I doubt it. He would have waited for the series to be over before making any contentious remarks.

what makes you think that?

I don't think it's a pot shot at Dhoni coz in ODIs, Dhoni is probably amongst the best Indian batsmen .... It's probably at Uthappa, who keeps changing his hairstyle and came into the ODIs as one of the openers .... And saying that players haven't scored much for the last year is probably a take on Dravid
Whoever he may be talking about, he is talking about one of his own team mates at the end of the day, whether its Dhoni or Uthappa it hardly matters, while he is within the Indian unit as a player he should have avoided making comments like these, he is virtually just going to cause friction within the team by making such statements.

But having said that, what SJS said could be true too.

If he was so bitter about his place in the team and against the player(s) whose hairstyles have changed more than their form, then I guess the previous selection committee was right in keeping him out of the team.

I am great fan of Ganguly but this is poor form from him.

I am sure he will get the sting back from whoever he is directing these to

Let's hope you are right.

well, i guess most ppl here agree [including me] that it's not a good move to take a dig at your team mates and thats not the point of my post

the point was that you said that it's a shot at Dhoni, which I don't think is the case and gave my reasons too, along with asking you why do you think he is referring to Dhoni

you didn't answer that Q but talked on something that most ppl here understand

Considering he talked about changing hair-styles Dhoni was the only guy whose name struck me at that time, i didn't think about Uthappa at that time, but if you read his quote again he has said there are "some" who change more hair-styles as compared to the runs they make, so he is probably taking a pot-shot at more than one player there, anyways if Ganguly has said this then seriously poor form on his part no matter who he was targetting.

Ganguly will get 'more than he asked for' - Vengsarkar.

Man, this just keeps getting better, so its Ganguly v Vengsarkar now.
Well, Ganguly has, yesterday, denied having said any of the things attributed to him by that Bengali publication as I had suggested he might.

Vengsarkar is stupid to have reacted to something in the vernacular press without checking with Ganguly or waiting for his confirmation.

Not surprising. This is the same guy who claimed that there were no new talents emerging in India. Vengsarkar is a flake as administrator.
