BARNES OUT
Zaki's a heck of a good signing for Wigan. To be honest I'd never even heard of him before his arrival, but he holds the ball up so well. Physical presence & a great first touch. Traditional "English" centre-forward.

Too good for Wigan.
There's a reason why Egypt dominate the African Cup of Nations every time it's played. Zaki and Mido is the best strike pairing in Africa, they're so good.

Great result for us yesterday. Two goals, clean sheet and it was against Spuds, who I hate. Big win, plus Defoe and Johnson got me bags of Fantasy League points. Result.

Hull starting so well would prompt me to suggest that they will probably stay up...Long way to go yet but I'd guess that this year will provide a lot of interest at the bottom of the table, what I've seen of Stoke and Brom makes me think that they also have the ability and determination to make the it a very close run thing. Am so hoping that Spurs and Newcastle end up relegated, though they will undoubtedly both stay up.

Most years there is one team that starts well, it is usually enough to see them across the line. Wigan and Reading were similarly impressive.

True, but it's rare for all three of them to be in as strong positions as they are, to have clubs like Newcastle and Spurs both below them in the table after 6 games is out of the ordinary. granted a lot of this is down to the fact that both Newcastle and Spiurs have been dire, but I think the difference between all the sides who have come up this year is a lot closer than say between Derby and the other two clubs who came up last year.

Polish football federation toppled; Euro 2012 in danger

Itstl. Possibly the strongest challenge yet to FIFA's "football should govern itself" dictum. Given the record of Polish football (endemic racism, corruption, crowd trouble) and the fact that Poland's government is using the Euro to boost infrastructure (and probably bankrolling stadiums) they presumably want to make sure their investment is in the hands of half-decent administrators.

Thought it was always a strange decision to award the competition to Poland in the first place ITBT, this just goes to show that it was probably an ill advised decision.

Yeah, but you can't always award it to wealthy West Europeans. Alienates half a continent.

A Russian bid would have been interesting imo. (Though artificial grass hampers them, I suppose.)

Yeah is true...but even out of the Eastern Euro nations I would still say Poland was a strange choice....but then like you say....Russia would also have been somewhat iffy.

Yeah, think about the only decent choice would have been a Czecho-Slovak bid, but they haven't tried afaik.

Croatia-Hungary was an alternative choice for 2012, something is needed to revitalise football in Hungary, but the Croatians aren't without crowd trouble either (though amazingly excellent at any sport with a ball), and they actually went off without a vote (though that was probably a result of horse-trading to keep Italy out)

Not quite sure, heard rumours of both Spain and Scotland/Ireland. Think they're loath to name "official backups" as it might be taken as a vote of no confidence.

Hmm yeah, understandable really. Always find situations like this could easily be avoided tbh, fully understand why events like the Champions Trophy have to be postponed when there are issues regarding the safety etc... But when it comes down to the host being behind on construction of Stadia and what have you I always get the impression that UEFA and FIFA could have envisioned that this sort of problem may arise if they had looked into it more closely prior to granting Poland the chance to host it. That said, many events are given the green light on the basis that Stadia will be completed at a later date, so would be unfair to not give Poland the same chance as everyone else.
