I can't remember the exact format of the Europa League but I do remember that when I read through it I thought it sounded a lot better than the present UEFA Cup, the 3 from 5 system in the groups is dire. IIRC the Europa League is going to groups of 4?
Yup, 12 groups of four with the top two through. All losing teams in the final CL qualifying round make it to the group stage.

Didn't mind the groups of five really, except for the problem that one team has finished before the others and thus resulting in more conditions where both teams could go through with a certain result. Don't see why everything has to be home-and-away though.

Not sure why you'd give that the rolleyes. It was quite obvious that the UEFA Cup needed a revamp, and it's about time too.
More the name then anything. I may be wrong, but I think the name 'Europa League' sounds dire. Revamping it is not the problem I have with.
This is the first I'd heard of it. Agree that the cup needs a revamp, but don't see what difference a name change makes. See also when Division 1 (formerly Division 2) became the Championship.

Will probably be another ****ty night. You can change all you like behind the scenes, but you can't change the fact that we're still good old ******** Man City.

Shocking dive by Palacious for the penalty he belongs more on an olympic high dive board
rather than a football pitch.

I've always believed that blatent diving like that should be punished retrospectively if the ref doesn't pick it up.

Tbf, from the point of view of the culpability of the referee, at least this one looked like a penalty live (to me anyway), Ronaldo's didn't.

On the other hand, Ron didn't dive whereas this was a massive dive, which for me increases comedy value anyway.

Ronaldo didn't dive exactly, but he still did an exaggerated flick/twist with his body as he was falling over. He's probably programmed himself to do it to the extend where if he fell down the stairs he'd throw in a somersault with pike.

Haven't seen Ronaldo's because I've been avoiding any highlight shows since yesterday, but today's never looked a pen to me. **** jumped in the air like he'd trod on a land mine.

Zaki's a heck of a good signing for Wigan. To be honest I'd never even heard of him before his arrival, but he holds the ball up so well. Physical presence & a great first touch. Traditional "English" centre-forward.

Too good for Wigan.

A day late....but Arsenal....dire...so dissapointing, hope to god that they haven't caught the losing to crap teams disease that has dogged Liverpool for so long. If this match had been an away fixture I would not have bothered me all that much, as they seem to struggle against lower league sides away, but at home.....really bad result.
