Oh and a mate of mine who works at JB Hi-Fi recently procured an early copy of this game and was 'gobsmacked' by how good it was. Even his colleagues who aren't wrestling fans can't get enough of playing it out the back. Out this Friday, really really tempted to pick up a copy after what he told me.
Tbh from the trailer videos it doesn't really look like a lot to write home about, looks fun enough, but kind of arcade-ish and not a lot that hasn't been done before (though obviously one can only say so much from viewing a trailer). That said, the big gimmick being promoted for Smackdown vs Raw 2009 is "tag wrestling", oooh...never seen that before, yawn. Will avoid the Smackdown series until they start catering for the next gen consoles exclusively and stop with the PS2, until then I doubt they will see any notable improvement. Still play Smackdown vs Raw 2005 to this day, probs the best in the series imo.

CHL is the funniest thing Charlie Haas has done with this gimmick by miles, was absolutely pissing myself, so gun.

Yeah, it's(TNA) getting very average reviews from the 'experts' but my mate reckons it's as fun a multiplayer game as you can get for which the arcade style would obviously help (think NBA Jam- possibly the defining game of my childhood).

Got SD v Raw 2008 mainly because I thought it'd be wrong of me not to have a wrestling game on my 360. A couple of beers and/or joints and a few mates and it's still awesome. Making Khali do insiguri's, hurricanrana's and 619's never gets old  But yeah, doubt I'll be getting a WWE game this year.

Whether I get TNA will probably come down to a shootout between this and Madden 2009 which seems to ooze awesomeness from everything I hear. I wish I had a bigger games budget :(

Good episode of RAW last night, great match between Mysterio/Sydal and Morrison/Miz, great leap frog to the outside into a hurricanrana on Morrison by Sydal, was genuinely gaping at that. Nice to see Priceless get another victory over Cryme Tyme, particulary good to see two really good tag team matches on one episode.

Yeah Mysterio/Sydal vs Morrison/Miz was a ****ing awesome match. Though through most of it I just kept thinking about how gun a match between Sydal and AJ Styles would be.

Random RAW thoughts:

-Jericho was excellent to open the show, really looking forward to seeing him try and carry the show
-Charlie Haas was awesome and Bradshaw did great selling it too
-Rey Rey and Bourne against Miz/Morrison was excellent. These type of electrifying mid card matches were the reason I watched Nitro every week and supplements the ME guys brilliantly, the crowd got so hot for the match by finish. We need more guys like Sydal in the WWE.
-Orton was very good again, teasing potential feuds with Punk and Jericho, and did even better once the three rookies hit the ring. They match up really well and another Evolution style faction with Orton as head would own and massively benefit all parties.
-Batista and Jericho/Bradshaw did nothing for me.
-Bit worried about the cage match next week. Both guys stand to lose heaps by doing the job, so unless there's massive interference I really feel it could have been booked plenty better.

All in all a very good RAW.

Yeah I thought this too, lucky thing is that they included the Jericho injury and worked it into the match really, as I imagine the match would have gone near enough the exact same if he was 100% and would have his ass pwned by Batista all the same.

I imagine Punk will be ok with the job next week, as long as it's not totally clean he will come off fine I reckon, all it needs to put Jericho over well and not have Punk lose a lot of credibility is for Cade to slam Punk's head in the door, then beat him down a bit, end with Punk being busted open and Y2J getting the pin.

On a side note, did anyone else notice how at Unforgiven when HBK put Jericho in the cross face Michael Cole called out. "And look at this! Michaels has got Jericho in...........a submission hold!"

Had a Lol at that.

Tbf he probably had Vince screaming down the mic "Don't say Benoit, don't you dare say Benoit" when he was starting. Refuse to believe anyone in wrestling wouldn't know what the name of it was

On the topic though, finding Lawler and Cole getting some good chemistry going on these past few days. RAW without JR feels a bit wrong still but SD! is so much better now.

Just bought a copy of the new TNA Impact game for my PS2 two days before it actually comes out!

Very excited about it and I'll give my review on here once I've played it for a bit.

Agreed on all counts. I've been very impressed with Sydal since his debut as well as Randy Orton who seems to have really lifted his game in terms of his promos. Jericho as champion is awesome and Raw all of a sudden has become the must watch show.

Now the thing with wrestling...is that I actually get quite excited when watching it....if you catch my drift.....do any of these...eer....wrestlers appear in.....movies? I'd be very gratful if you could provide any info.

Thanks

...anyway...

Jeff Hardy vs HHH for the WWE title an No Mercy announced this week on Smackdown....

Think the bookers have got this wrong tbh. Seems very stupid that MVP has been built up with an impressive win over Hardy at Summerslam only for Hardy to now get the title match. But still, at least it's someone new in a high profile match.

Mind you, I guess it still could be changed to a triple threat or a fatal four way, as Kozlov coming out at the end of the show and kicking Jeff's ass suggests there could be something else added to the match later on.

HHH really is taking the piss these days isn't he? No chance in hell they're giving the strap to Hardy or Kozlov so I might as well just watch what happens on RAW and hoe Truth, Kendrick,Shelton and MVP aren't totally buried by their drop to midcard.

Think the increase in Hardy-Hunter interactions recently is to aid the forthcoming heel turn from Hunter. With Edge out of action, SD needs a new top heel, and Jeff is the only guy on SD who's as over as Hunter is, if not more. Jeff isn't taking the strap until 'Mania next year, so they're teasing it as much as they possibly can with the intention of creating the biggest possible moment once he finally wins it.

Quite like Kozlov, TBH. Works very stiff, which is always fun to watch.

Oh, and I'm also on board with the others in this thread when it comes to Charlie Haas - this new gimmick is gold. He even had the crowd chanting "CHL, CHL" after about ten seconds in the role.

Just got word that apparently Paul Burchills time in the WWE is numbered, only a rumour at this stage but seems like his head is on the chopping block and will likely get fired soon. Bit of a shame really, was genuinely impressed with him when he frst showed up on RAW a few months ago, ah well.

Yeah, shame. TNA could probably make use of him I reckon, although they'll want to be careful about the number of WWE cast-offs on their roster now that the Dudleys have re-signed, Daivari is there and Foley is part of their setup now.

Hope they don't ditch Katie Lea too, though, she's got a lot of potential. And is really, really hot.

AWTA lol, thought the exact same thing. Hopefully she'll be ok, as seeing as they never really went through with the brother/sister incest angle it's not like she needs Paul there for her gimmick to continue, and she's put in solid enough performances when she's been out on her own, so fingers crossed.
