*Official* English Football Season 2008-2009

Norwood's on Fire
Should pick Beattie imo. Don't care if he's only carving up the Championship, good enough for me.

RE those partnerships, I think (and could be wrong) that Crouch-Defoe bagged a few in a 6-0 V Andorra, which perhaps skews that, I think it's acceptable to argue these things on CW where Bangladesh are routinely removed from cricket averages

Well for English players in the prem its either him or Scholes ATM.
One feels that passing isn't a particularly strong aspect of Scholes' game, the likes of Fabregas, Alonso, Arteta and Hargreaves are all better at passing than he is, and probably better than Carrick as well imo.

Can't actually think of any better though. Who would you be thinking about? Alonso probably ahead of him but no one else comes to mind.
I find it amusing that you openly state that Carrick is without a doubt the best passer of the ball in England, but as soon as someone says something to suggest otherwise you come out and name someone who is "probably ahead of him".

Well given that Setanta paid for the rights, why would it ever have been anything other than exclusive to Setanta?
Wasn't aware that Setanta & ITV had exclusive rights to all ENG friendlies & Home/away matches until today, just though Sky just didn't bother to show the Andorra match. Which i'm sure most will not appreciate.

Meh, so? England have played Andorra a few times in the last 6 years, did the strike partnership do against them on Saturday, 0 goals. Still need to put them away.

Partnership that banged in the most against quality opposition is Rooney/Owen, but that was when Rooney was scoring for fun in 03/04, now he's got progressively worse it shouldn't be contemplated.

Rooney's international goal-scoring drought is exaggerated no doubt. He IMO only has looked a bit off the pace on for ENG since he got his injury during the WC.

Just the other day he scored that tremendous goal in Russia, plus a few times since WC 06 he has played as a lone-striker which hasn't helped either.

He's scored 3 times since 2004, if it was Heskey we'd be on his back, don't see why we shouldn't be on Rooney's back.

Meh, so? Anything that breaks the Sky dominance can only be good. Go down the pub ffs.
Yea thats my plan, but the thing about setanta getting these rights now is well i'm not sure many ppl have setanta. Plus I have grown accustomed to the commentators what BBC & SKY have, going to be a odd change.

Ha, You ppl are wack. I think it has something to do with the fact that Rooney is 10 times Heskey's talent & has been scoring goals in the EPL & Europe during the past 4 years againts some quality defenses. Come on now..

I said English players in the EPL, Carrick is the best while Scholes passing & vision has arguably been at its best over the past two seasons. But since your on it, based on your list only Fabregas, Alonso & probably Essein passing game ability are definately ahead of the Man Utd trio.

So? 3 goals in roughly 20 games is droppable form.

And Arteta, criminally underated.

No because although he hasn't scored been useless, i believe he supplied the pass for Cole's second goal..
Exactly the same argument why Emily 'no goal' Heskey was picked time after time. Rooney has gone from being a superstar in the making to Emily Heskey in an England shirt and you still think he should definitely play.

Is there any better striker in England to replace Wazza?. No. He has banged in the goals for England a great deal since EURO 04 yea, but every ENG player this decade except for J Cole & Owen have had questions of them going missing or looking out of form except when injured, thus it always comes back to the fact that these blokes are played out of position plus have lost the no how to play the English way especially during the lacklusture Sven era.

Simply put having Rooney on the park is better than not having him, since i know his international goal drougth wouldn't last forever. I honestly don't feel he has peaked fully yet the last few years he has showed great versatility that even a young Owen didn't show. I reckon his final touch has let him down a fair bit also since i remember many times him getting some superb passes & not putting it away for ENG then for United the next week he does, just a phase IMHO.
