Godleman scores his 2nd FC ton. Seems a long time ago when many, including myself were proclaiming him as a future England player.
He's still only 19. He's had a disappointing second season but precious few would've been able to do what he did in his debut season at the age of 18. He still has plenty and plenty of time to start scoring prolifically.

Not saying he undoubtedly will, obviously, but his poor 2008 is no disaster, just a little disappointing.

And it continues to mystify me that Middlesex put Malan in the middle-order, even when Strauss is available.

No great surprise, but sad nonetheless to see Alistair Brown leave Surrey. I suppose another county might be interested, but at 38 he'd be a very short-term signing. I'm sure he was offered an IPL or ICL contract in the winter; perhaps he could still take up that option?

Good to see a lot of play around the country today 8-)

These last two years those Australia stereotypes of non-stop rain in England have actually rendered somewhat true :(

Actually makes me quite depressed tbh. I thought I'd overslept and woken up in November. :( Off after 13 balls at Canterbury, and with more rain forecast for tomorrow that could well be the end of the match. Officially the season still has three weeks to go, but on days like this I just think, what's the point? Might as well end it all now (the cricket season that is, I'm not quite that depressed - give it time though).

I'd have stuck with Arif myself. I'm surprised you think Fernando will provide relief - he'll probably just make it worse.

Unfortunate deeply for Worcs to lose first Jones, then Kabir Ali, then Mason, and now Arif. An attack which was until recently the best in the country now becomes (with Fernando, Whelan, Andrew and whoever-else) a standing joke.
Tell me about it. Its funny how fast things can change. Although Jones / Mason have had many injury problems in recent times so we cant say we were surprised. As for Arif. He started brilliantly but has dropped off considerably over the last few games since he got his nice contract. Not that im saying they are linked of course :whistling

I cant say i've followed Fernandos progress in recent years, but i do remember some decent performances vs England in the past. Judging from Rhodes' comments, he wants a tall bowler who will get some bounce which will compliment the slower / skiddier bowlers we have.

ICL you'd think - and if he takes it up good on him, but god I hope if so he doesn't try and get another county.

Can't fathom why he's not played this season BTW. Do they really think the likes of Walters and Spriegel are better? Or has he just been injured?

Haha, I guess Fernando has performed a bit better against England than some others.

Seriously, though, you should check-out what he's done against some others of times. He truly is one of the worst bowlers I've ever seen play such a large amount of international cricket. Right up there with the Sajid Mahmoods.

A massive 13 balls were bowled today in all cricket.

Surrey and Kent had the most play! Yay!

Rain has stopped here, and the sun is shining - could easily play for another two hours IMO. Rain on the outfield(s) would be a problem though.

Just been dropped I think, Spriegel is playing as an all-rounder, Walters as a batsman with prospects, as I said I'm not surprised - just disappointed I never saw him at his best.

More or less resigned to Surrey going down tbh, Shoaib signing - if he ever does - won't make any difference at all. We may get him for the last CC match, which will of course be rained off.

Well its only for a couple of first class games and some 40 over fun. If we signed him for a whole season id be worried :)

Just noticed JC being playing well for Derbys, in '06 i think it was he came and played a season of cricket in hamilton at the same club I play for, i even took the field a with him in a couple of games. Efforless player, watching him bat and bowl it just looks like it comes so naturally to him.
One of my favourite players. If Houghton was coach he would be still stuck in the second XI. Fleming was his 2nd wicket in first class cricket. He got his maiden century and took 7/74 in a game recently. :)

Come on now Richard - there's only one Saj - he's in a class of his own!

With Mumbai. Harbhajan Singh told the franchise to get him but Brown declined the offer for he wanted to, "honour his deal with Surrey".

I thought it was something like that - as I said, maybe he could still take up that offer. Would be like a second benefit for him, and if the likes of Chris Cairns can still play there's no reason why he shouldn't. Hoping that Surrey will give him at least one more game, ideally in the Pro40 next week at the Oval.

I had planned to go to Canterbury today but decided not to, as I figured if I didn't go they were more likely to get a full day's play.

As for Shoaib, we should get him just in time for the final CC match of the season, by which time relegation will have been confirmed (and which will, of course, be rained off).

I can't believe Surrey will still go through with the Shoaib deal for it makes no sense but neither did signing Chris Lewis or Alex Tudor...

Slim to none, by the look of the puddles on the outfield.

Only playing at Lord's I see - some matches have been abandoned already, and this one will be just after 1 o'clock. May as well wait to see what Sky offer by way of alternative.
