Esp with Australia lacking a decent spinner, his services with the ball will all the more vital.
Then why do we see empty cricket stadiums across the world (barring England and Australia) for test matches.I don't agree, liking them and caring about them are two different things. I rather like ODI and T20 cricket, but i wouldn't miss them at all if they were gone. Have you ever met anyone with a passionate love for the limited-overs game?
Tests appeal to less people, but those they do appeal to, they appeal to more. There's other factors too, of course. Point is, not many people feel very strongly about LO cricket. Then why do we see empty cricket stadiums across the world (barring England and Australia) for test matches.
Mate, every sport runs on revenue it generates and whether the people feel strongly about LO cricket or not they still flock into stadiums to watch it, the real money in cricket comes from limited over cricket, and that's how things are, whether we like it or not.Tests appeal to less people, but those they do appeal to, they appeal to more. You know, when I said noone cares about LO cricket, I didn't expect a detailed rebuttal. It's irrelevant where the money comes from in this context anyway; I was saying Australia won't miss Symonds because Watson should be even better in tests and no Australian fans are going to be overly bothered about any of the other stuff.Mate, every sport runs on revenue it generates and whether the people feel strongly about LO cricket or not they still flock into stadiums to watch it, the real money in cricket comes from limited over cricket, and that's how things are, whether we like it or not.
haha, what? I do believe I only mentioned Rixon in relation to NSW cricket and Cairns specifically, not NZ cricket.Well he was.
TC, stop trying to paint Rixon as the saviour NZ cricket needed. It's boorish.
Not from what I hear. If half of it is true, Watson has an ego which is second only to Michael Phelps for pure self-interest.About a 100th of the **** that Symonds is as well.
And apparently has never shouted a round in his lifeNot from what I hear. If half of it is true, Watson has an ego which is second only to Michael Phelps for pure self-interest.
Didn't know that ITBT, though if anyone deserves to have an ego, it is Michael Phelps. Not from what I hear. If half of it is true, Watson has an ego which is second only to Michael Phelps for pure self-interest.
Heh... is that true? I read an article recently by some Australian journo that said he was the most affable sportsman in Australia. Weird. Not from what I hear. If half of it is true, Watson has an ego which is second only to Michael Phelps for pure self-interest.
Oh... and Phelps seemed like one of the most down-to-earth sportsmen ever when he was interviewed on the BBC when he came to London. Not from what I hear. If half of it is true, Watson has an ego which is second only to Michael Phelps for pure self-interest.
Sorry dude, truth is far more boringAnyway... back onto topic. Apparently Symonds is suffering a mental breakdown similar to Tait's and is going to follow the same rehabilitation programme.
What the heck are they doing to them in that team?
AyeOh... and Phelps seemed like one of the most down-to-earth sportsmen ever when he was interviewed on the BBC when he came to London.
....if they go about things the right way. Those sentiments are all very nice but the brutal truth is that allowances are made in virtually every entity for star performers
In fairness, though, we don't know what the sequence of events was. Perhaps Symonds said he was going, someone else said "Mate, we've got a team meeting", Symonds said "Bugger that, it's only Bangladesh, I'm still going." and then the trouble started. If I was team management, that sort of thing would have infuriated me more than if i went to start the meeting, asked where Symonds was and heard he was fishing and might explain the severe punishment.....if they go about things the right way.
You don't just up and go fishing without consulting anyone. If he had have gone about it the right way (went to management and told them they he needed some space) he wouldn't have put himself and the team in the current predicament. There is a right and wrong way to do things...the world doesn't revolve around Symonds.
I'm sure they would have taken all the circumstances into account when deciding on his punishment, and that Michael Clarke wouldn't have been so adamant and firm in that interview with Michael Slater on Sunday if there were mitigating circumstances. I think you're perhaps looking for a scenario which would explain away Symonds' lame conduct. In fairness, though, we don't know what the sequence of events was. Maybe he did ask for some space, was refused and forced the issue by going anyway, working on teh assumption it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission. Who knows? I certainly don't.
Anyway, it's good that the Australian team has standards. It's one of the reasons, I dare say, why they have stayed number one for such a long period.
Standards are one thing but when a top player is forced out and rumours start being peddled in the media about a breakdown in relationships between the new management and others (Lee and Hayden), questions have to asked about whether they are being correctly appliedI'm sure they would have taken all the circumstances into account when deciding on his punishment, and that Michael Clarke wouldn't have been so adamant and firm in that interview with Michael Slater on Sunday if there were mitigating circumstances.
