Symonds sent home

This is my favourite quote:

"This is not Symonds' first fishing-related drama, as he and teammate Matthew Hayden had to swim back to shore when their boat sank off Stradbroke Island in 1999."

Perhaps he should attend Fisherman's Anonymous.
And that is a fair swim as well. Michael Phelps himself would of been impressed.

Well tell this to those two (Hayden and Symmo) then they might just say that they could have even beaten Phelps on that occassion, becuase they were shark infested waters and there were hungry sharks all around them.

TC, a wise post and I agree with everything you said, but you seem to have missed the fact that Symonds isn't good enough to deserve preferential treatment in the context of this team. Firstly, he's after Hayden, Ponting, Hussey, Lee, Clark and possibly even Clarke in the pecking order. Secondly, Shane Watson is a more than adequate replacement. All that Symonds has over his number two is fitness.
You can say that in terms of test cricket, but in Odi cricket he is arguably Australia' best and most valuable player, but still that doesn't mean he should be given preferential treatment, and CA has never given preferential treatment to any of its players, his status notwithstanding (best example being Shane Warne).

Watson' talent was and is not under the scanner, but whether his body can withstand the pressure of 5-day cricket is highly debatable.

Yeah, I like Watson as a cricketer and reckon he'll be more successful (sp?) than Symonds in the long term.

About a 100th of the **** that Symonds is as well.

Symonds more or less out of the Indian tour!!
I think this is pretty lame, its almost like Nielsen is calling the shots on this issue, ok Symonds didn't make it to the team-meeting so you made your point by throwing him out of the Bangladesh Odi series, but to take it any further would just be like blowing the issue out of proportion.

Na, not playing Bangladesh isn't that big a punishment. The Indian tour will be something that will force Symo to wake up and smell the coffee, or his career will be sleeping with the fishes.

If it was just for missing a meeting then Id agree. However, there seems to be a complete breakdown of trust over many incidents and that they believe the inclusion of Symonds is a greater negative and distraction than positive.

The article seems to indicte Symonds doesnt 'get' what is needed and isnt mentally ready to be a responsible member of team Australia. Basically, they dont trust his behaviour to improves.

Sad really.

More or less? If he gives a "heartfelt" apology he'll be back in the team in a flash. I have no doubt he'll be back for India.
Nielsen seems to have already made up his mind that no matter what Symonds is out of the Indian tour.

Probably doing Symonds a favour by leaving him out. Did a lot of PR interviews during the IPL to 'show us the real Andrew Symonds' yet he just came off as a 24 carat tool every time. Would probably cop it sweet again.

Yeah but let's be honest, who actually gives a **** about Odi cricket really?

I doubt he has that power, not to mention he doesn't say anything of the sort in the article posted.
Well i hope that turns out to be the case, as much as i don't rate Roy as a test cricketer, one can't deny he has been pretty effective in the last four test series he has played in (even if he has had loads of luck), and from a viewere point of view it would be real fun to see how Symonds goes against India in India this time around.

I will genuinely miss his fielding, same as when SA ditched Herschelle Gibbs for tests. Really great fielders are a treat to watch.

Apart from the purist and hardcore cricket lovers, a lot people actually care about Odi cricket and even T20 tbh, and Symonds is gun in both the forms.

He'll be vital in India. It'll be a bloody tough tour and he's the exact type of guy you want in those conditions (pressure wise).

I don't agree, liking them and caring about them are two different things. I rather like ODI and T20 cricket, but i wouldn't miss them at all if they were gone. Have you ever met anyone with a passionate love for the limited-overs game?

That could be one of the reasons why they might not be too keen to take him there.8-)
