*Official* English Football Season 2008-2009

The Sean

Cricketer Of The Year
To be fair, Saha is a failure in fitness, not goalscoring ability (at the right end). If he stays fit for the season then it's a good buy, if not, well, you know.
Agreed, a player of real quality when fit. Which, sadly, is never. And the problem is that the issues seems as much in his mind as his body.

Though now that he's left United, what odds on him having an injury-free season and banging in 20+? Reckon it's the type of thing that would happen - and TBH I'd be really pleased for him if it did (would be dampened if it included a hat trick against us though, obviously).

International Coach
To me it's a strange buy because they're not going to get very many games out of him, though I agree with The Sean and Bob, on the rare occasion he is fit, he's a very good player indeed.

How is being passionate about club but less so about country a white/black divide? Worst comment.
Am that is how it is with the different races of football supporters generally in this country based on what i've seen.

You got the older caucasian men (40+) who always talk about how things where in the 70s & 80s when Liverpool where the best & how all the foreigners are destroying the league & condemn the national side. While the younger generation like yourself are absolutely fanatical about clubs & even lower league teams & that enthusiam is nowhere when the international team plays.

Don't get me wrong I could go crazy too when Man U are on the go but you guys take it to a new level. Not a racial thing just the way we support.

aussie, why do you feel the need to mention the fact that most posters in this thread are white at every opportunity? Tiresome TSTL.
Nah man the only time i do that i when i'm in this thread & in the past the use of my slangs have offended many thus i had to boringly clear myself up. Never have to this problem in cricket_chat for obvious reasons..

Just give it up WRT Gerrard. Some think he should care more about England, some (like me & Halsey) think that club should come first, and others don't really give a **** either way.

The best thing you can do now is to turn yourself to the big Northampton game this weekend. Bit of a grudge match ITBT as a mate of mine tried to run the pitch and back on the last day last season but was accosted by home fans en route. As such, a 4-0 win is required to avenge this.
Ha, not into lower leagues, but what you telling me hear just further proves what i told Matteh. Its basically race trait being shown up in how we support football.

But enough of that i see Hargreaves is out now much bigger loss than Gerrard if you ask me the mid-field since 06 seems to lose solidity when he is not around, i'm sure Capello will be gutted because i would bet (with one of two position changes) the team that played in the friendly againts France in March is the one he would have played againts Croatia.

Well at least Croatia won't have Kranjcar & Edwardo..

Tbh that's not at all the case, the fact that everyone is condeming Gerrard for missing out on England duty surely shows that everyone IS passionate about the national team! You only have to see the hysteria arround a world cup etc.. to see how passionate the entire country is about the national side.

Disagree. Sick and tired of English flags appearing in the windows of every single ****ing house every time a big tournament comes around. Steve McClaren made this summer so awesome.

BTW, love the "fanatical about clubs & even lower league teams," like lower league teams don't count as clubs.

When England start playing like they deserve my support, or even like they give a crap, they might get something. Until then, well, give one.

Yes, this is the key point I feel, Aussie's argument doesn't logically follow.

aussie, I know some people of black and Asian persuasion who support Tranmere and prefer us to have success to England, I respectfully disagree that race has anything to do with it. Generally it's people in the north who are less passionate about England (you obviously not being part of this rule) which is ironic really as northern clubs tend to provide most of the players

Yeah there's definitely a certain amount of truth in the geographical divide, from my experience.

That argument doesn't hold water on this site at least since WC 06. Since a fair few here have pledged their position as club over country.

You only have to see the hysteria arround a world cup etc.. to see how passionate the entire country is about the national side.
Yea pre WC06 great passion & with a bit of overhype from the media our chances rightfully where pushed up, their wasn' this total sense of frustration & disappointment as it is currently. But yet many still hold firm that i know, this site though many have gone awol.

You have misunderstood me & again so have the rest, my argument is about the style of our support. Just look @ the barmy army in cricket full of white guys who are very hilarious to watch when they get going (had the oppurtunity to be part of them during the ENG tour to WI 04 in Jamaica) i'd never support ENG like that

Well i can't speak for the entire Northern region, nor the entire Manchester, but i know my area's i.e the whalley range, moss side, longsight, cheetham hill, salford, trafford, down south by the training grounds alot of passionate supporters yo since all these players are around the Man Utd & Man City stadiums.

Probably area's far out may have such supporters but i don't know..
