It will be a good test for Gambhir then assuming this Prasad chap is any good. He has shown he is a good player of top-class spin but I doubt he will become a test-class batsman against a good pace attack. I would love to be proved wrong obviously; we really need a decent opening pair to cope with Lee and Clark.
Gambhir was fantastic in ODIs in Australia against pace, and again in the IPL. Different games obviously, but it certainly doesn't suggest he has a weakness against extreme fast bowling. Also, it'd be a strange decision to open the batting throughout your career if you were a lot better against spin than pace. What makes you think he won't cope?

Actually my hunch is that Gambhir has a better long-term chance as a middle order batsman than an opener but it's obviously a lot easier to break into the Indian test team as opener. I didn't see too much of him in the tri-series but earlier when I have watched him he has often seemed awkward against short-pitched bowling. Even in this series I remember an over where he was troubled by short-pitched bowling from Kulasekara of all bowlers.

I personally think most bowlers in world cricket would prefer to have Jayawardene in the opposition team than Sehwag.
It depends where the match is. In Sri Lanka, Jawardene is pretty impossible to bowl to, averaging 66. Outside Sri Lanka, he averages 37. For comparison's sake, Sehwag hits 54 at home and 51 away. Big fan of Mahela, but he certainly isn't "obviously better than Sehwag".

Mahela is a highly under-rated batsman especially since becoming the captain. the guy has been averaging close to 70 since becoming captain with 10 100s in 23 games. Yes his away average is little bit of worry but he has shown that he can bat outside of SL by scoring 100s in Australia, England and WI.

I would definately pick him over any current batsman if we are playing a test in SL.

the review system is great IMO.
Absolutely. And tell you what, the time that it takes is well worth it, because on the whole I think we will see more of it going against the batsmen then the other way around. A lot of the 'doubtful benefits' that the batsmen have been getting will be eliminated helping bowlers bowl teams out faster and getting results.

The glitches, which are always there in anything as new as this, are nothing that cant be worked out.

But Zaheer Khan is no where as good as Donald, Pollock, Bond, Wasim, Waqar, Shoaib, Martin, McGrath, Lee or Gillespie. So my point still stands. Paceman of Zaheer's quality does not match the class of Jayawardane. Ishant Sharma, yes I will agree.
zaheer has played on flat decks if he bowled in sa,aus,nz,eng he could have been
even more lethal as his stats show,he is bettter than martin

The same flat decks that Sehwag played on. Eh?
haha, looks like you are upset with Sehwag smashing Mendis and Murali

Sehwag: "Watch his fingers"
Sachin: "Play him off the pitch"
Dravid: "Sht, play it straight"
Laxman: "Use your wrists"
Gambhir: "Anil Bhai what could we do?"
Kumble: "Can't you pick him?"
Every body: "No Bhai"

^ any quotes now for Mendis and Murali

Indeed, it is just getting a bit silly now.
what more can you expect,

dropping robin is stupid he has hardely played in the 11 and the last time he played
in the 11 he was the 2nd higest scorer,he also played well in the finals in australia.
also yousuf did not get fair chances,it seems one place in indian team is for selectors
and each zone gets one ,thats callled rotation policy:laugh:
