Geraint Jones... a forgotten hero?

Some people seem to be mistaking the skills involved in the input for the outcomes.
There's no confusion at all. You think the only thing a keeper needs to do is not drop many catches to make him a good keeper which proves you have no understanding of his role in the field.

No, you seem to have confused "catch the ball" with "catch catches".

A wicketkeeper needs to catch anything that comes his way, and that's his role. There are many skills he needs which increase his chance of doing this to the maximum extent possible, but the end result needs to be the ball going cleanly into the gloves.

And very occasionally he'll need to whip off the bails.

No, I'm not confusing anything, and nor will anyone else be confused by your attempts to bluff your way out of it as usual. And by defining his role as you have above you've proved the original point that you don't understand it.

No-one needs to be confused by attempts to bluff, because such things don't exist here. You did misinterpret what I said though - probably deliberately.

Proved to you maybe - which really doesn't matter. There is nothing important to a wicketkeeper other than ability to ensure the ball goes cleanly into your gloves. There are a great many skills which help a good wicketkeeper do this, but at the end of the day this is the aim.

And really, someone saying "it's not" won't change that. If they explained what else there was to it, maybe it might. But some people are more interested in trying - and usually failing - to make others look foolish than actually offering insight.

Today? I'd say Ambrose looks like a rabbit in the headlights against a team too preoccupied with Collingwood to finish him. Don't know where his next run's coming from.

I infinitely prefer Ambrose to Prior and am an advocate of him getting a decent run in the side. I just don't think he looked in any sort of form today. Hid in his shell.

As you can probably tell by the thread I would ideally like to see GJ back behind the stumps.. but as thats fairly unlikely ATM my second choice would be Ambrose so I'm glad he is in the current frame... :D

Bringing GoJo back would be awesome, but is unfortunately more or less impossible atm.

I have to say, I never expected to hear the word 'Geraint' and 'hero' in the same sentence. I guess my favorite memory of Geraint was his remarkable reflex catch that he took to dismiss Ponting.

Yeah, the Ashes was a strange one for Jones, as he fumbled a few catches and a couple of stumpings but took some catches that perhaps you shouldn't have expected him to.

Tbf to Ambrose hes applied himself far more than Geraint did over his career. His technique is clearly holding him back, but at least hes come in and gusted it out.
