Looking ahead to Season XIV

And having a group of established internationals including some of the greatest players of all time is more realistic?

I understand the implications of them possibly not wanting their names here but it's not un-crossable and I would certainly put my hand up to contact some of the people concerned. I'm sure people like Hingston, Rich Twyman and Markus would be fine with helping us out for a season.
And what did the IPL feature?

Pretty sure some of them won't be up for it and you'd end up not having a full team.

Your point is ridiculous. The IPL is a real life tournament that people, including us, participated in.

Show me a first class league anywhere in the world that has a team with Brian Lara, Shane Warne, Heath Streak, Shane Bond etc in it and I'll agree with you.

TBH I think both the Masters XI and a former CW players XI are not quite right. As many have said the Masters team is pretty unrealistic and also it will be a pain in the arse to sort out a former players squad as well as the whole skill issue. Perhaps a more prudent suggestion would be to either do something like in the CC setup with a minor nation, like Ireland, playing in the league or to have an invitational XI of domestic players from County Cricket or the Aussie domestic ranks. You could even just invite one squad over from one of those leagues, as our season runs during their offseason doesn't it? Surely a decent domestic side from Aus or England would slot in pretty well statswise with the rest of our teams, or having a country like Scotland or Bermuda or something playing in the 6th spot.

Jeez. It isn't that hard. Tell each of the 5 teams to drop their 3 worst/least favourite players into a pot.

That will give 5 teams of 16 and 1 team of 15.

Sure the new team will get beaten most games, but isn't that real for any new franchise in a decent league? Over time, that 6th team will hopefully grow; some of those players dropped from the over 5 teams will be young'uns who will improve over time.

Voila. How is this a problem?

Blacks will still beat the rest even with 9 players when their internationals are away. Piece of piss.

Point's not ridiculous you just didn't grasp what I was articulating. Merely was stating that the IPL is an example of:
having a group of established internationals including some of the greatest players of all time
Just that in this case they'd be playing for one team not different teams.

Also, in the West Indies FC system a few years ago they invited Kenya to play and also India A.

I didn't miss your point, but like I said the IPL is a real life tournament only included in Dev League for added enjoyment. In the context, if the IPL was changed from 20/20 to First Class and List-A (with 40 games in total, plus the 20/20 tournament they participated in) cricket I'm not sure Warne and Lara would be participating, among multiple others.

India A and Kenya aren't retired all-time greats of the game. I could understand the BCCI wanting the players selected for India A getting as much cricket as possible, as well as the Kenyans.

Pretty sure we had Bangladesh playing in the league a few seasons back, or some International A teams or something. May be wrong but cba to trawl threads to check

I don't mind the idea of the Scotland/Ireland type idea though I think people may be opposed to it. As it stands it seems masters is what most people are content with so just stick with that.

I don't much care for the idea of a Masters XI, and I feel a minor nation would be more fitting, but I'm not entirely familiar enough with everything.

The real problem with Heath's proposal for another CW team is that you need some experienced players to join the side as well as (probably) captain and VC so they don't lose by an innings every game. If there was a new team coming in I'd throw my support behind someone like Goughy or Cribb becoming the team captain (as I'm sure everyone would) but that sure does disrupt a side this close to a new season.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I'd be all for a minor nation as the 6th team. IIRC in the early seasons of Dev League there were A teams from NZ and Aus, right? Not too much difference...

Tbf, I don't think there's quite enough activity and enthusiasm for a 6th team just yet.

I think it's workable, 19 players to a side is a lot. With a new team a few of the more active and non-******** crisimmers would post a lot more due to getting good gametime as well imo.

Yeah granted Twenty20's much shorter and less taxing on their bodies but if you pay them enough they'd play.

Wasn't trying to think of those two teams as having all-time greats. Was aboutthe idea of inviting another team which was expounded upon above.

We've had England A and Australia A in the past and A sides are feasible...For instance England A have played in the WI domestic comp a couple of times and an Indian domestic comp a couple of times
