Cork on TMS is completely missing the point with Twenty20, the reason Henderson was successfully slogging in the finals was purely down to the pitch.

I bet he wouldn't be taking a step down a pitch and pull/slogging the ball if he was facing 90+ mph bowling on a proper pitch.

With regards to the Notts batting, don't forget Jefferson, he's too good a player to stay out of form for too long, He's been disappointing for a year now, but surely the ability doesn't leave you completely.

I'm a Notts fan, so am biased, but the Notts bowling options have to be the strongest in the country, with the best wicket-keeper (cue comments) too.

Notts are missing the Hussey factor it appears. Voges has done okay, but he gets to 40-50 and gets out. Hussey used to go on and make the big hundreds.

Horton
Vincent
Loye
Law
Du Plessis
Flintoff (Croft)
Sutton
Chapple
Cork (Out for Smith if i was a selector)
Anderson (Mahmood*sigh* not if i was a selector)
Keedy

Good so see Tommy Smith getting some more runs down with Leicestershire anyway, hopefully some wickets today. With Cork not getting another contract there's a spot for him next year.

Moore (continuing a great run of form) and Solanki currently have a 301* 2nd wicket partnership going on. Not often you see that! Solanki in one day mode, which would suggest very poor bowling.

Do you think the title will come to Lancs this year dav?
Lot of cricket left and its tight at the top. But...we have 5 games out of 7 in the north of England so its the old weather issue. Only 2 are at OT though and they are both in the next 2 weeks so if we can get decent weather for them you never know. Liverpool and Blackpool(where our other home games are) usually get better weather than OT and we finish off at Taunton, which, IMO is a much more desirable finish than Surrey away.

With regard to the team itself, even though we are up there I think we've been dissapointing this year, but we have started to look a lot better recently. The batting is coming in to form with Horton, Vincent, Law and Du Plessis looking okay, with concerns still about Loye. Happy with Croft at 6 he's doing a job whilst still learning and will be a big player for the future. Sutton's doing okay but i reckon he's not got more than another season in the side.

The bowling is actually more worrying now and it shouldnt be, at least Chapple seems to be bowling okay recently and Cork can hopefully have a swansong towards the end of the season. Keedy has been very dissapointing but he will be very important for the last part of the year so hopefully he'll improve.

Its interesting we aren't using OT after 17 August, hopefully we will be starting some development.

Games in Liverpool are late in the season. Will see about getting some days off I think.

Career-best score now.

Still am amazed that Gloucs released Greenidge, who took 5-62 in his only game for them earlier in the season, without giving him a single other opportunity, given how utterly wretched their bowlers are.

Other odd thing is that Gidman hasn't bowled this innings, as I say. Must surely be injured.

Solanki out 30 short of a triple-century to... Marcus North. Gu'in.

513 off 102 overs so far. Hopefully they'll declare without the innings run-rate dropping below 5-an-over, because that's phenomenal.

And one of those weird-ass things at Southend: James Harris dismisses Jason Gallian. Gallian made his First-Class debut exactly 1 month after Harris was born.

Well it could be to do with the fact that he is a 30 year old journeyman and that fifer was against Loughborough. Hardly counts really.

Why have someone like that clogging up space as a back-up requiring a decent wage when a young hungry (and cheap) lad could be playing 2nds and pushing for a first team spot?

Releasing a player like that makes perfect cricketing and financial sense.

I obviously don't know any contractual details, but he's no worse as a bowler than the likes of Brown, Saxelby, Hardinges, Rudge et al. They've loaned 3 bowlers this season - Newby, Wigley and Harris (who've so far taken a sum-total of 1 wicket between them).

If they were going to release him, why didn't they just do it before this season?

There are simply far, far too many poor-quality cricketers (like Greenidge and like hundreds of others) on professional contracts. I reckon 16-17 pros per county would see everyone worthy of a pro contract in this country have one. The rest should be on match fees IMO, with smaller ones for Second XI games.

Id have a long and hard thought about doing something like capping the number of players at 13 per squad with English qualified U23s not counted (ie not included in the 13 player limit).

Haha, Paul Wiseman opening for Durham at quarter-past-three!

WTF?

I bet this'll be the first time he's opened on merit in First-Class cricket. At the age of 38.

Hahahaha, Solanki going mad against Gloucester's absymal attack.

And Solanki declares at Tea... with Davies on 99*.

It's bad enough, but he hasn't even made a century yet this season. Guess Solanki thought he'd cashed-in as much as anyone had any right to against such shocking bowling.

FFS, Worcs aren't even pushed for time.

Could be a weather thing. Still, another decent score for Davies. I know for a fact that England are constantly monitoring his progress vis Rhodes. He also couldnt have a better Keeping coach than Rhodes.
