Ya kool, but can any one clarify how many teams & to which Div of New WCL they qualify? Nepal have started of really good, should see how they play here after. They shouldn't have a prob qualifying to the semis, their real test starts there! I feel this is the best Acc Trophy held so far with already so many upsets taking place.

Upsets till today:
1) UAE loosing to Saudi Arabia
2) Nepal beating Hong Kong. (Though they are very much equal, but still after Hong Kong coming from Asia Cup?)
3) Kuwait beating Singapore.
Still to come for sure ;-)

I'm only speculating here, but this is what was announced:

WCL Division Eight: Six teams to be determined according to results in recent regional tournaments, 5th and 6th from 2009 Division Seven
WCL Division Seven: Six teams to be determined according to results in 2008 Division Five and recent regional tournaments.
WCL Division Six: Four teams to be determined according to results in 2008 Division Five and recent regional tournaments, 1st and 2nd from 2009 Division Seven
WCL Division Five: 5th and 6th from 2008 Division Four, 3rd and 4th from 2008 Division Five (USA, Nepal), 1st and 2nd from 2009 Division Six

That probably means they'll give a spot to each region based on how the region's team performed in the WCL, and then after that go to regional rankings.

Thus, I'll guess

Division Six: Asia 2 spots (as Singapore, worst Asian team, were 5th at the WCL), Africa 1 spot, Europe 1 spot
Division Seven: Africa 1 spot, Europe 1 spot, East Asia 1 spot, America 1 spot (all the lowest in WCL div 5), Asia 1 spot + a sixth - probably Africa as Mozambique were ahead of Norway and Asia have already been awarded two extra spots
Division Eight: 1 spot for each region + either Europe or Asia

So based on that, 5th and 6th (assuming UAE, Hong Kong, Nepal, Afghanistan reach semis, which is unlikely) qualify for division six, 7th qualify for division seven, 8th and maybe 9th qualify for division eight. Singapore may be given some leeway as they were close to qualifying for division five, so it'd be unfair to demote them three divisions based on only this tournament.

Fair assessment.

Second place looks to be a real battle in group B if Hong Kong can get up here. Winner of Singapore v Hong Kong slight favourites.

Afghans need some wickets, but their best bowlers are spinners IIRC?

So Afghanistan started winning now, hope they continue... So did Hong Kong by cruching Kuwait.

So The Standing after today's game:

Group A:
1) Nepal - P: 2, W: 2
2) Hong Kong - P: 2, W: 1

3) Kuwait - P: 2, W: 1
4) Singapore - P: 2, W: 1
5) Qatar - P: 2, W: 0.

Group B:
1) UAE - P: 2, W: 1
2) Afghanistan - P: 2, W: 1

3) Bahrain - P: 2, W: 1
4) Malaysia - P: 2, W: 1
5) Saudi Arabia - P: 2, W: 1.

Now all teams are placed equally beating each other. Semis wide open...

Wat a partnership (90+) between the last wicket batsmen to give Kuwait a win against Singapore? Dont think even Test teams would have tried that! Great going Kuwait... Teams should keep fight like that...

Looks like the future suspects - Nepal, UAE, Afghanistan, Hong Kong - are making it through. Malaysia/Afghanistan not quite settled yet though.

Netherlands cricket is looking increasingly like it will be overtaken by some of the up and coming teams. I hope this is a reflection of improvement in the likes of Denmark, but looking at their performances against the Scots and Irish it could be the Dutch are slipping back.

Despite their pos. on the table, I think Italy have been the surprise package with how well they have fought against the more fancied teams.

It is quite sad how easily the Dutch have been rolled over by both Scotland and Ireland, even with Ryan Ten Doeschate. Their WC place will definetely be under threat playing like that.

Saw Kenya live in action in Exeter the other day. Kennedy Obuya and Morris Ouma looking in good nick.

I feel by conducting 2 major tournaments at the same time has blown out European championship when compared to the interest generated by ACC Trophy. Lot of people have now started showing interest beyond the TEST Teams which is really great. Think Acc Elite Trophy deserves to be telecasted LIVE in Asia atleast. I feel there is lot of interest in the participating nations & fans in UAE, Nepal & Afghanistan will really enjoy it!

Wat say friends? Should there be a LIVE coverage for ACC Elite Trophy from next edition onwards?

Ya guess a Live Tv coverage should help the game in Asia as well as it can get enough sponsers in the partispating nations also! There is more interest in Nepal, Afghanistan, UAE, etc, compared to Ireland, Scotland, Dutch forget Canada...

Mainly because in Ireland We've got indigenous sports plus football and rugby to think about before cricket. But the community is 10,000 odd strong. Good enough to match up to New Zealand if the right Funding was around.

And incidentally, I hate to be a bit of nazi here but It's Netherlands not Dutch. Dutch are the People, Netherlands is the country.
