Who is your favourite cricketer?

I believe you. You have always had his photo up. I have just one question. WHY ????
I always believed he got a rough deal and should have been persisted with more in his prime. He was never going to be a great Test batsman but that was all part of the charm - he was awesome First Class cricketer who deserved more of a run IMO.

I think my liking for him is based on the fact that I just wanted him to succeed so badly. There are quite a few cricketers I'd rather watch from an asthetic point of view but my support was always with him. Glutton for punishment, perhaps.

Fair enough. Although earlier in his career he did actually show all the makings of being a fine test batsman. Not just his double on debut in 2000, but his 150 in South Africa later that year when batsmen were dropping like flies around him was a fine knock. He then scored another double against Pakistan in 2001 and then it all turned to custard there after.

Yeah, he certainly did have some ability. His lack of foot movement across to the ball outside off meant he was never going to be awesome but he was certainly a bit better than some who were given much longer opportunities in the NZ team, and he conquered all comers domestically.

Reportedly he was always a bit "odd" so inconsistent recalls and droppings from the team would have had more of an effect on him than most and unfortunately he was victim to it a lot more than most as well. Despite all that I'd still back him to score more runs to this day in a Test than James Marshall, an out-of-form Peter Fulton or Gareth Hopkins, but that's just me and I'm probably biased.
