Yes it is. If Player A is holding serve comfortably and taking Player B to break points often, but is unable to break. Simple as.

And I never said "dominating". Just "outplaying". Subtle difference being that you can outplay someone in a close match.


You what? For the first set and a half Federer only faced one break point. He lost it, but he had about 4 or 5 against Nadal. Again, anyone who was watching the game could tell how comfortable Federer looked on serve for most of the first 2 sets.

Yeah, Federer looked the goods even whilst losing the first two sets I thought. I went to bed at the end of the second, but Federer had a lot of chances on Rafa's serve and just didn't convert. I was surprised to see some of the wayward shots, but then maybe the wind had something to do with it.

Could see he was a little reluctant to come to the net though on occasions, which cost him a couple of points as he ended up stuck in no-man's land.

6-4. 6-4 was the result after 1st two sets in favor of Nadal, fair indication of the way match was going. In Tennis you can not claim that 'A was dominating every area except break point'. It is not so simple really. Roger was not only able to get any break points but unable to hold his own serve as well. Basically that is how you win or lose Tennis matches.

And no roger didn't dominate Nadal in every other area either. Roger committed too many errors, his serve was inconsistent between games. His net game was ineffective. Very defensive game. He woke up in the 3rd set and since then we have seen a different match .

HIs net game was very effective until he became indecisive.

I think Nadal can now go down in history as a great player, anyone who wins five grand slams will, however he could have had that monkey hanging over him had he won seven or eight french opens and no others that he was a one surface player, now that he has a Wimbledon crown and he beat one of the all time greats on his best surface in a final like that proves he will be a great of the sport.

My net connection died during that 5th set, but I couldn't take my eyes of the TV. Hell I couldn't sit down, spent all of the 4th tiebreaker and the 5th pacing up and down my living room like a madman.

Finally sat down when Rafa won it, just pure relief when he managed to hold on. Honestly, was sport at it's greatest that match, proverbial nobody deserved to lose but I'm glad Rafa came out at the end I guess. Hoping Federer comes back bigger than ever and we see more Slam finals like this.

battle royale! congrats to nadal for dethroning the current king of grass in a fantastic match! i am not sure whether federer will completely recover from this loss...sampras' record, "just" 2 slams away...now looms a full 2 slams away...have a feeling it is going to take a herculean effort from him to match/surpass sampras now...and to add to that, if nadal stays at this level or improves, then 10+ slams for him will be easily within reach, he is half way there as it is...

Well done Rafa, great win, but don't think it's the changing of the guard quite yet. Roger to win the US Open considering their respective histories there.

i think it signals the beginning of the change of guard...and nadal has improved out of sight on hard courts as well and will be a threat at the open...so will the djoker...so to put it mildly, it is not going to be easy for feds to defend his title there...

Youd think he can manage a couple more slams in his career and hold the record by the time he retires, the upcoming problem he is facing is retaining his number 1 ranking, he's still quite a way off the record of number of weeks at #1 and not that long ago we just presumed it was a foregone conclusion he'd get there.

Lol, thought the Fed had all the momentum after saving those two Championship points but I think the rain delay helped Rafa much in the same way the first one helped Roger. So glad to have been proven wrong.

Dunno how you got to bed, I tried to after the rain delay but just couldn't stop thinking "what if it comes back on"

I'm having a debate against someone who says that Federer 'lost it' more than nadal won it, and that Federer made too many unforced errors and wasn't playing his 'A' game.

I think that's crap.

Am I right in thinking that a player is going to make more 'unforced' errors when they play against someone with the hitting ability of Nadal then when they play against a worse opponent?

According to him unforced errors are irrelevant to the opponent because they are after all 'unforced', but I think that's obviously wrong.

Who's right?
