NBA 07-08 season thread

the heat has 4 solid players now with wade, marion, beasley and haslem...still need to improve much more to contend against the celtics and even a revamped pistons...rose might be an excellent player but the bulls are chock-full of guards anyway, without some serious trading, doubt they will become a force at least not immediately...

I'm not sure I'd go with that regarding Rose. He's a massive upgrade on their other guards and a jumpshooting team like the Bulls would surely benefit big from all the open looks he'll get them? Fits like a glove for mine, only thing he struggled with in college was his jumpshot last year, but he's already got an excellent form so I've got no doubt he'll improve on that. Main issue for him is that without any other superstars on that roster he'll automatically get the best defender on the other team onto him and will have to deal with that and with defences who rotate and double faster and smarter than what he's seen.

Pretty optimistic about the Bulls tbh. They've already got a good project big in Noah on their books so like you said I've no doubt they've got Hinrich and Gordon on the block to shore up other areas. I'm sure they'll be getting a lot of games on National TV next year so quite looking forward to seeing more of them.

point is they are still a jumpshooting team and they are not going to contend if they remain that...they have a lot of good players in deng, gordon, hinrich, nocioni, noah and now rose but they are still a comparatively small team, don't have any significant post presence and jumpshooting isn't going to get it done, especially in the postseason...so they have to deal some of their tradeable assets and get bigger for one...and they need to get really good big men to balance out the scoring that say, someone like gordon and/or hinrich would bring to the floor most nights...

Yep, but now they have spare pieces with trade value. They'll be without a doubt in the market as plenty of teams could do with a good guard like Hinrich or Gordon and other bits and pieces to get a solid big. Not going to be a contender for a while but they'll definitely make strides forward is what I'm getting at. All a fan of the Bulls could ask for really.

Does anyone know much about Jefferson who's been traded to the Bucks for Yi and Simmons from New Jersey? Never really heard of him before.

Never heard of RJ? Quality small forward, played for Team USA but always been in the shadow of teammates like Kidd, Carter, K-Mart so probably doesn't get the props he deserves.

As far as league standing goes I'd say LeBron,Melo,Pierce,Marion and Artest are better. Probably on the same level as Caron Butler, Tayshaun Prince etc right now.

Cheers mate. Hopfeully he can offer something for the Bucks who have been lacking a quality SF for a few seasons now.

Baron Davis signing for the Clippers. Wow, if they can resign Brand they might find themselves away from the lottery for once. Maggette looking at Orlando though.

where did you hear about davis? he is a free agent and is likely to sign with the clippers, but it is not a done deal yet...but if davis reaches there with a fit brand, a healthy livingston and kaman, mobley etc supporting them would make the clippers really competitive...

Marc Stein on ESPN says Baron told him he's going to the Clippers. Personally hope Brand leaves, we've(Philadelphia) are 12m under the cap and he's a perfect fit for us. Just can't see him wanting to up and go now that they've upgraded big time.

A healthy Livingston is a bit of a pipe dream for mine.

no brand doesn't want to leave...and why do you think livingston won't be healthy?

Some guys are just perma-crocks I guess. Hope he can get over his injury blues because he is a quality talent.

Personally thought that we should've gone for Beasely first up, but now that I've thought about it, Rose makes sense. As much as I love Hinrich, I think it might be time to put him up for a trade with some other guard (Thabo perhaps) and get a big man. Anybody hear anything about the Turkish guy they might be trading for their second pick?

Omer Asik? Don't know anything about him personally but here's a scouting report.

Also, the NBA went to India this week with Kyle Korver, Turiaf and Pat Garrity:

Interviews here.

What would you say the level of popularity of the game is right now in India?

Turiaf:I wouldn't know how to put a number on it, but I've been here for about 55, 56 hours and all I see on TV is cricket.

Korver:All of the interviews I did out here today, they all believe that they aren’t tall enough. They don’t believe they have a shot, so it doesn’t motivate them to play.

I lol'd a bit at both of those tbh.

What a stupid response. What're you going to see in the off-seasons of most sport?

I agree there's a lot of Cricket on TV here (a lot more than there should be), but thanks to Star Cricket, ESPN and Star Sports aren't, gasp, airing Cricket all the time.

ESPN News, Brand signs 5 year deal with 76ers

Stefanski does the impossible, keeping all our major pieces and adds our missing banger. :notworthy

Interesting press conference transcript with Richard Jefferson on the Bucks' website which gives some real insight into a players end of the trade situation. He says he didn't want to leave the Jets and talks about how he was disappointed to be moving on.
