I thought you used to criticise me when I made anti-Vettori comments?
Haha, I think that's right.

As you can obviously tell, I've changed my opinion of him greatly since then and agree strongly with the below.

I'm a massive cricket nerd myself, so I don't hold that against him, but I hate the way he portrays this "mild-mannered cricket expert" image when really he is an overrated bowler of gentle off-spin who is grossly over-rated, often conducts himself very poorly on the field, rates himself way too much, and constantly goes missing under pressure.

Very good umpiring to give the fielding captain time to dwell on his decision, and just a shame Collingwood failed to make the right one within the spirit of the game and the series.
It was, although I thought it was odd that he put his arms on Collingwood's shoulders. It's something that would make me a bit uncomfortable!

Some serious tall-poppy symdrome against Vettori here. How utterly typical. Criticise him all you like but bear in mind he's highly likely to be held in high esteem in NZ sporting circles, not to mention extremely likely to be held in higher regard than any of you lot trying to drag him down to your small childish little level.

Get the **** over yourselves.

Ironically Mark Benson gave England the choice to do the right thing and withdraw the appeal, yet Collingwood obviously didn't accept the offer. To give the captain the option to appeal is the prescribed thing for an umpire to do when a dismissal is completed in dubious circumstances; according to the Umpiring Bible, "Tom Smith's"

You must be talking about tests. Vettori is one of the best limited overs bowlers in the game, despite whatever failings he may have in the longer form of the game he has been the most reliable of all NZ bowlers for years now.
Fair(ish) comment. Mills gives him a run for his money though....but he's a good ODI bowler for sure, more a container than a wicket-taker, but still good.

As for everything else you've said, I have seen no proof of him conducting himself poorly in the field in attitude
Shocking over-appealer, you can pick an example from any game, only have to go back to the Broad dismissal from the 3rd ODI where he never turned to the umpire at all

or performance
Surely you jest?

nor have I ever heard him talk about himself in anything but a humble (and honest) manner.
Well, I can only assume you've never heard him interviewed

Didn't stay up and watch the cricket so only heard about the result and the incident this afternoon. As far as I'm concerned, it was awefully against the spirit of the game from Collingwood to appeal, as well as whoever it was that took the stumps off from Bell's throw. As for people bitching about New Zealand doing something similar to Murali, its got no comparison. Murali was dumb, the ball could well have gone for overthrows and I'm sure that Kumar Sangakkara would've taken an extra run if there had been an overthrow to get back on strike. It only made sense to complete the run out. In this incident the fielding side was at fault - not the batsman. It was the bowler, Sidebottom, who blocked the batsman and prevented him from getting anywhere near his ground. Given that the fielding side obstructed the batsman to such a degree, to appeal for his wicket leaves me shocked to be honest.

Sorry, but one eyed much?

CAPTION COMPETITION - prize - Vettori quits as captain and competes properly with Patel as our spin option in ODIs and in tests.

As he's a 6'4" piece of sh*t I think "tall-poopy syndrome" is very apt indeed

Don't get me started.....

This is the same over-rated bowler that is arguably the best left arm spinner in the world (arguable given Panesar's lack of appearances in ODIs for England)? Conducting himself poorly on the field...what?? From what I've observed hes a very good ambassador of the game who, whilst prefers to play a more low-key role than a Shane Warne or even Stephen Fleming type of leader, still portrays a very encouraging leader for the team to follow. You don't have to field at first or second slip for your entire career to be perceived to be a good captain.

I liked you better when you were in love with James Marshall.

Look, Patel is a decent spinner. However he is no where near Vettori's class, I'm pretty sure even TH agrees with that one, not to mention Athers will (grudgingly) admit Vettori>>>>Patel.

Daniel Vettori is no saint. There have been times when I have been rather disappointed with his actions on field, like getting angry at a fielder when he's bowling, and he has said some pretty poor things, but that serves to polarise him as a player and captain for me. He may be overrated by some, but the hatred shown for him by others is a bit ridiculous.

Patel is one of the worst players to play for NZ in recent times imo....we just don't do spin very well, and the worst thing is we think we do

I'd be in favour of both playing more often than they currently are, but if you have to choose between them it's really no contest - you have to look at batting as well (although Vettori has been in a bit of a slump with the bat lately).

I'm surprised Ricardo Patrese hasn't pulled you up for "avoiding the filter" given you've done this twice in the last five minutes (hyperbole, by the way) and Richard usually picks people up for that. Mind you, I shouldn't be surprised as each time you leave, he waxes lyrical about how much he misses you for a good half an hour.

Everytime you go... away... You take a piece of Rich with you...
