You're kidding. I'm the original and the best Vettori-hater. It seems to me the guy unveils new layers of crapness each year, and now he's our captain ffs!

My hatred of him started when he bullied the selectors into giving him full reign in the test and ODI lineup. Totally uncalled for.

Pretentious "scholar" who thinks his knowledge of the game by the books entitles him to power.

Don't get me started.....

I'm a massive cricket nerd myself, so I don't hold that against him, but I hate the way he portrays this "mild-mannered cricket expert" image when really he is an overrated bowler of gentle off-spin who is grossly over-rated, often conducts himself very poorly on the field, rates himself way too much, and constantly goes missing under pressure.

lollin @ people getting worked up at Scaly as well. Like moths to a flame.

He just makes me long for the days when he was on countdown and not on here. Those heady days of Bond21 talking about Matty Hayden and how he'd bowled 110mph in the Under 15s on the weekend. Those happy, happy days. Oh, how I yearn for them. To dream, perchance, to bowl quickly. Ah, sheer bliss.

McCullum and Vettori- the problem with the Black Caps atm. Under-performing, their own biggest fans, and given way to much authority in the team set-up.
I can't agree with that. I've found McCullum to be one of the nicest blokes I've come across in my time working at BSport. While many others refused to talk to anyone who had not first arranged it with their media managers and even by their tone of voice smacked of arrogance when talking to a lesser human being such as myself, McCullum was more than happy to interrupt his lunch at a cafe to give an interview. Even asked how I was, which is a rare phenomenon.

Never dealt with Vettori, so can't comment on him. I do feel that much of this criticism is unjustified and simply based on a seemingly irrational dislike of the man though. He's an excellent ODI bowler, one of the best in the world in the last few years, and I've on the whole been fairly happy with his captaincy so far.

Watch him cry foul about losing his captaincy later on when another steps up to the plate. Fleming took it on the chin, but watch this man (especially after his latest OTT no-class reaction to the victory, then allowed his team to not shake hands after).

Once, not too long ago, interviewed a cricketer by telephone. Called him up and he was out Christmas shopping and he apologised to me! What a legend.

Four matches seems way to harsh for that. Punishment doesn't fit the crime.
Ganguly got a similar ban a few years ago IIRR.

We've seen for years that fines don't work on slow over-rates. The amount of delaying at the end of that innings was absurd, it took forever to bowl the last few overs. Bans are the only way to have a chance of putting a stop to this nonsense.

I really don't mind it...when it's a tight finish such as this one was I don't notice how slow they're going, I'm so completely immersed in it. The longer it lasts, the longer my entertainment lasts as far as I'm concerned.

Vettori's defining moment, and the reason he deserves the captaincy was the key part he played in getting Kurt Russell back from the other side of the universe in the film Stargate. If he didn't know hieroglyphics as well as he does, Kurt Russell would still be stuck there and Death Proof would never have been made.

All we'd have to remember him by is his starring role in Overboard!

You must be talking about tests. Vettori is one of the best limited overs bowlers in the game, despite whatever failings he may have in the longer form of the game he has been the most reliable of all NZ bowlers for years now.
As for everything else you've said, I have seen no proof of him conducting himself poorly in the field in attitude or performance, nor have I ever heard him talk about himself in anything but a humble (and honest) manner.

Yeah and he's a prick lawyer to boot with the washout captain from some sci fi series. 8-)

Didn't stay up and watch the cricket so only heard about the result and the incident this afternoon. As far as I'm concerned, it was awefully against the spirit of the game from Collingwood to appeal, as well as whoever it was that took the stumps off from Bell's throw. As for people bitching about New Zealand doing something similar to Murali, its got no comparison. Murali was dumb, the ball could well have gone for overthrows and I'm sure that Kumar Sangakkara would've taken an extra run if there had been an overthrow to get back on strike. It only made sense to complete the run out. In this incident the fielding side was at fault - not the batsman. It was the bowler, Sidebottom, who blocked the batsman and prevented him from getting anywhere near his ground. Given that the fielding side obstructed the batsman to such a degree, to appeal for his wicket leaves me shocked to be honest.

Ironically Mark Benson gave England the choice to do the right thing and withdraw the appeal, yet Collingwood obviously didn't accept the offer. Very good umpiring to give the fielding captain time to dwell on his decision, and just a shame Collingwood failed to make the right one within the spirit of the game and the series.

Tbh I think that's the only time when slow over rates are justified.

Heath, you're a strange, strange man.

And CW would be poorer without you :)
