They have to spend that money, look at players like Lincoln Withers, Glenn Turner etc... they are on far more money here than they would get anywhere else simply because its not an attractive place to play apparently.
If they had a high profiled coach or have a more consistent success for a season or two. I reckon players will take less to play for them. If lifestyle was what it was all about, then everyone would want to play for the Sharks or Manly. GC I guess if you don't mind bogans.

Everyone knows Canberra has a reputation of being a cold hole, weather is crap, no nightlife, dull people, long way from anything etc... all unjustified but the reputation is still there.

James90

Cricketer Of The Year
There was a period in 1994 (which the above game was captured by) where Mullins was absolutely, ridiculously white hot. Everything he touched turned into four points.
The team at that time with Daley, Stuart, Clyde, Lazarus etc was probably the best XIII that a club has put out since the Parra team with Sterling.

There were still attracting high profile players back during their hay days. I think you will find there is more footballing reasons why players don't sign unless they get a decent amount of extra cash.

It isn't bogan up here, only Logan City (and that is not GC)

Seeing how the ranting that took place once Prince didn't make the Origin team a player would certainly have more friendly media then a journalist taking pot shots at them if they were dire on the weekend.

Sooner or later the underdog status will wear off and the fans and media will expect high quality performances and the pots shots will begin.

Round 10 Results

Mr Wright - 48

Boy Brumby - 44
Tozzer - 44
Clapo - 42
DCYE - 42
Burgey - 43

That round was certainly an improvement on previous weeks, and the first time everyone has tipped above 50%. Tharmi & Myself were the lowest with 5, Smith & Matteh with 6, and everyone else 7. Tipping understrength Melbourne, Brisbane & Newcastle sides was basically everyones let down.

State of Origin Game 1:

NSW v QLD

Round 10:

Sea Eagles v Dragons
Rabbitohs v Storm
West Tigers v Titans
Warriors v Roosters
Bulldogs v Sharks

Won't include Origin tips unless everyone has their tip for it in.

Origin tip has been listed, should be included regadless of whether everyone tips for it or not, but that's just my opinion.

QLD

Sea Eagles
Storm
Titans
Warriors
Bulldogs

I would have said that had I made it known that it would be included a little earlier. Less than 24hrs notice is harsh imo

Remember the game at Newcastle he scored four tries in the game and three of them were length of the field efforts, was certainly a brilliant player, basically played like Brett Stewart, just three times better.
I do mate. He was on fire. 1994 was a great league year generally, with the last proper Kangaroo tour. It was also the last year before the Super League split, which was the time the game lost its innocence. I still love the game, but things can never be the same as they were pre-1995.

A bit OT, but I would love to visit Canberra, especially to see Parliament House and the War Memorial etc.

It's worth it, nice place... Maybe not this time of year starting to get too cold. Maybe around October or March is better.

Took the kids for a weekend over Anzac Day - was fantastic. Posted on another thread that it's a great country where you can play chasings with the kids on the roof of the national parliament.

Also, the trees were losing their leaves and it all just looked splendid.

Well worth a look HJ.
