I like mid-week Origins. Go to work, and talk about the game all day Wednesday, and then the post-mortem on the Thursday. It breaks up the week nicely! Agree though that it's not ideal for the players or the NRL premiership more broadly. To that end, stand-alone Sunday nights would be best.

You know you can watch the U20s or NSW/QLD Cup if you want to watch reserve graders or the next big thing. Would be a lot better if we had breaks during the season for SOO and maybe even Australia/NZ Test matches.
Don't have Foxtel mate, so can't watch them.

Got a car, bus or train ticket. ;) Pretty easy to go out and watch a U20 or Queensland Cup match, if you really want to see those players. The coverage of games isn't that great on TV, due to lack of cameras. Better off watch matches live.

Went to the game last night, if Raiders learnt to play like that away from home they'd almost win the comp. Can't see why they get the dropsies every time they play away.

Yeah, I think it's great they've recruited Shillington and retained Carney for next year. Hopefully they can snare Barrett too who, for all the criticism levelled at him about being soft, would improve the Canberra team. They're such a hard team to dislike, the Raiders. Because of that glamour period in the early 1990s, I think most people have a bit of a soft spot for them. Remember their squad at one stage - Mullins, Nagas, Meninga, Clyde, Daley, Stuart etc. When they played Brisbane around that time, they're some of my best memories of league as a kid.

Not having a Brisbane vs Canberra grand final sometime between 1989 and 1996 still hurts, great games between those two and they were the best teams along with Manly and the Dogs in that time.

Isn't there a QLD Cup match on the ABC every Saturday?

Oooh yeah!!!

Remember that game when Mullins scored that amazing individual try where he picked the ball up from dummy half, chip kicked twice in the one play, regathered and scored under the posts? IIRC that was v Brisbane in Canberra one night.

There was a period in 1994 (which the above game was captured by) where Mullins was absolutely, ridiculously white hot. Everything he touched turned into four points.

Looked him up in youtube for that try, only got two clips for his efforts and none from his Raiders days, the rest were music clips from crap musicians nobody has every heard of (or I haven't at least).

Mullins and Nagas were gun back in the day.

Remember the game at Newcastle he scored four tries in the game and three of them were length of the field efforts, was certainly a brilliant player, basically played like Brett Stewart, just three times better.

Every decent youngster Canberra retain they lose anther decent youngster. If they kept all their youngsters they produced over the last few years they could have been a top four side by now. Thats there biggest problem and it doesn't help when they spend fairly large amounts of money for any established player they recuit.

They have to spend that money, look at players like Lincoln Withers, Glenn Turner etc... they are on far more money here than they would get anywhere else simply because its not an attractive place to play apparently.
