Really impressed with Strauss's innings. I've been a critic of him for a while but he definitely seems to have tightened him game up a bit.

What's great is that he's done in this innings exactly what so many people on CW - yourself and myself included - have been saying he needs to do for at least 18 months.

I really hope he can keep it up, because if he can get back to playing like he did in 2004 and 2004/05 he'll be a huge asset again.

Strauss still looks like he's really struggling with his mind and game - basically a bit tentative with his shots as the fear of the axe is still there

Hopefully a few more innings like this one will see that pass

I woudlnt have given that out either. Too much guess work. May have gone on to hit top of leg from Hawkeye but I think thats guessing.

Im a notorious notouter though when umpiring though

Given the situation of the match, I fail to see how 63 off 174 balls is a good knock personally.

Don't England want quick runs to push for the victory?

Most of that was over the previous days when it wasn't evident how rain-shortened this game would be.

No surprise to see England making up for some rare good batting with their usual ineptitude.

Southee has bowled 3 overs. Why, pray tell me, was he played in this test over Mason/O'Brien again?

Seems like the NZ selectors have been influenced a bit too much by media hype. Unusual really, they've usually been good at ignoring the tripe that gets dished up over selection.
