*Official* English Football Season 2007-08

Oh and it is interesting that the top five in the fair play league seem to mirror the actual league somewhat.

Does this show

a - the best teams have the least need to give away fouls or
b - the big teams get specialist treatment from referees?

As somebody who is still bitter about Gary McCallister's tumble and Michael Owen's offside goal at PP in 2001 I know where I stand :p
Both IMO. It makes sense that the top sides have the ball more, hence have less need to foul. It also folly to suggest that the big teams don't get the rub of the green with decisions at times.

I agree. The Spurs midfield is masterful at playing keep-ball and taking pressure off the defence, we're easily the best team in the country if the fair play league is to be believed.

I hope Pitt comes on here while he is still blind after his bender to end all bender's after his team's win last night, it will be priceless, as he will probably strongly disagree with what Sp said about Portsmouth.

Getting a European Cup since based on Fair Play is daff anyway. What next? Best haircuts? Best behaved fans?

There I said it.

Platini; he's the bitterest man in the universe, says The Observer's Paul Wilson:

How much was Michel Platini miffed by Richard Scudamore's preposterous plan to tack on a 39th game to the Premier League season and play it in parts of the world where Uefa don't go?

It would seem the Frenchman is still sulking about it. Despite having two English teams in the Champions League final for the first time ever, the Premier League received no courtesy tickets for the Moscow game. Some Premier League officials have gained invitations from other sources, but given that in previous years the league has been well represented even at finals without an English club, Uefa's marked lack of end-of-season goodwill can only be interpreted as a snub. If Uefa is one big family, as Platini keeps saying, the EPL is now the black sheep. Alternatively, at the wedding feast that is Austria and Switzerland this summer, Scudamore and Dave Richards will be about as welcome as drunken uncles.

----

How pathetic is that? It must really kill him that the Prem is so big just now. You'd think our national team being gash would be some consolation, but not quite enough it seems.

He still seems to deny that the Premiership is the best league in the world, well I have to hand it to your lot, they just get on making the final and semi finals when your likes of Inter, and Real Madrid are just big pretenders.

If there is some consolation to the fact that the Premiership's top four is pretty predictable, Lyon just racked up their 7th straight Ligue 1 title, either the league is dire or all the teams that play in it. I mean Alain Perrin who the less said the better about his time at Portsmouth is now having the last laugh with national success back home in France.

Can't give it to Villa though if Man City's a better team in terms of fair play.
Coming sixth in the fair play league is a **** way of getting into Europe, end of. If you're actually not that good at fair play, just give it to the next side in the league.

Would agree with this.

City have got into Europe because Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, etc can play fair, not because they can play fair themselves. Whichever country came 2nd to the prem in the fair play league should've got the position IF the team that topped the fair play table hadnt qualified. Basically all the national winners of the fair play league should be taken, and the best one who hasnt qualified should get the spot, not find the fairest league (bear in mind fair play takes in some utter tosh reasoning such as 'spirit of the game', what a fair judging characteristic) then give it some team that came 6th.

End of the day, City played fair against the teams below them, because they dominated play and didnt need to foul. When up against it, they fouled, hence why they didnt come top. Sad there being rewarded for it really.

Yes agreed 100%, if you're not top of the fair play league then give the spot to the next side in the league itself.

And yes, good on Exeter.
