I dont understand your reasoning for the above post. I mean how can you support PCB's stance to ban him selecting for Pakistan team but do not approve their blocking these players from County Cricket. Rana Naved has been playing in the county cricket as a representative of PCB aka Pakistan Cricket. So IMO PCB is only being consistent in their stand.
My reasoning is that PCB have a right to protect Pakistan cricket's interest. If players sign up for a rebel league, they are in conflict with their home board. It wasn't in Pakistan cricket's interest to have players like Yousaf, Asif, Gul etc join the rebel league and not play for PCB again (as would have happened if they had signed up with them). However, I have no issue with any player playing for the ICL as long as they realize they're forfeiting playing for PCB. Those same players should also be allowed to play for the counties (or any other organization not owned/controlled by the PCB). They have already suffered the consequences of playing for the ICL. There's no need to go after them and prevent them from earning altogether. That's simply vindictive and petty. You stated that the players represent the PCB when they play for the counties. Perhaps so. Maybe it shouldn't be that way. Why does this process have to run through the PCB? It should be an independent matter between the counties and the players. Those players employed by the PCB should be aware that they can't breach their contract with the PCB when signing with the counties. Those not employed by the PCB should be able to do whatever the hell they want.

What the world cricket boards are trying to do is set an example which shows that anyone trying to create a parallel body and give encouragement to such bodies by joining it does not stand a chance

Fair from their monopolistic PoV but unfair for those who like others being given a fair chance to show what they can do

It's ICL that inspired IPL and not vice versa .... In a way, it's sad that ppl who try to change things and come up with original ideas get pushed behind by those with more power

Having said that, I guess, if ICL were in the position of IPL, it would probably done the same

So the Q is where should one draw the line?

I think this will sort itself out. The ICL will probably collapse, but if there is any sense in the people behind both, then in a couple of years there will be a merger.

The IPL, will become a big money 'Festival' of T20 cricket. Showcase India and a lot of the top players and be a part of the International calender but not an event of any great consequence.

My major concern is that such monopolistic practises would discourage companies from coming up with ideas to develop the game further or add another dimension to it as they would fear their ideas getting hijacked by those in power

Come to think of it, If ICL wouldn't hv come up with that then there probably would hv been no IPL. Others with original ideas seeing this development would fear coming up with something new coz of the power of the governing bodies to hijack the idea and sadly the power to shut such companies up

Its the way of the world.

Get there first means nothing as people will quickly learn from your mistakes and do it better.

Of course there would be no IPL if there was no ICL but its a competition not a race.

I am not in support of boards banning players to play for their countries if they play in the ICL either tbh. I read a piece (I think it was by Tim de Lisle, not sure) where the writer aptly said that the boards and the ICC are just helping (and are being used) by the BCCI to fight off competition.

I will give an example - when the Stanford T20 came up in the West Indies, it was heavily opposed. They built their own stadiums when the WICB wouldn't allow games to be played in international stadiums. Players cannot be stopped from playing in such tournaments. This year's Stanford T20 saw all West Indies stars playing and I don't see them being banned from playing for the West Indies today.

Why is the ICC forcing boards to ban players who play in the ICL. Boards like the West Indies and New Zealand have limited players and it would deplete international cricket if more players like Bond sign up for ICL. The ICL does not restrict players from playing for their countries, it is international cricket which is being stern about it. The PCB stand is ridiculous. I wouldn't be surprised if it was directed by the BCCI to the PCB to do it in another attempt by the BCCI to stangle ICL.
FICA slams anti-competitive behaviour over ICL.

Good stuff by FICA.

Update: Osman Samiuddin, one of the best cricket writers at the moment according to me, expands on the points I was talking about. Do read.

England are considering allowing counties 4 overseas players next year for the 20/20s. Will this be England's version of the IPL/ICL?
Don't like the idea, that result will probably be a few of the more rich/unscrupulous teams will simply be made up almost entirely of Kolpaks in addition to the non-Kolpak overseas players. So instead of showcasing some of the young talent in England it'll be showcasing talent from elsewhere.

Looks like the final squads are now out with a heap of Indian youngsters joining the IPL squads :)

I read on Cricinfo that Ali Brown turned down an IPL contract, WTF?

Regardless of being a Surrey supporter I would have loved to see Ali out there. Indian fans would have loved him.

Interesting listening to Indian Premier League Chairman, Lalit Modi, on TMS last night.

A couple of interesting things

- Noone knows who will be in this second auction until Sat and he doesnt expect any English players to be there

- Any County that plays a player that has appeared (from now) in the ICL will not be invited to the lucrative T20 Champions Trophy. Even if that player will not play in the tournament the County will be excluded if they allow any ICL related player to appear for them at any point.
