2. all respect to Kallis and his match winning abilities, but he is not a hot commodity as far as 20T goes, imo. i guess, he was not selected even in the RSA 20T squad
Well, he hasn't really had a chance to prove his worth in T20's yet, he has only played three and has an average of 13, but his strike rate is above a hundred. In the domestic version too he has only played a handful of games, but averages almost 30 with a strike rate of 108. I think given a chance to play more he can play a pretty decent role in the IPL, Kallis can fire when he wants to and in the IPL I doubt he will feel as much responsibility as he does playing for the Protea's, which could give him a chance to play more freely.

The SA selector's stupidity isn't really the basis for any argument though. Anyways iirc, he was officially rested there with an eye on the hectic international schedule.

And at 900,000, it seems like there was a small bidding war over him as well, so the franchise bosses obviously recognise his value (and I doubt it's too much in marketability). Reliable class batsman that will always perfom plus solid bowler = very, very valuable.

Exactly. Plus, one of the best players of the 20/20 WC, Misbah, wasn't exactly a slogger. Blokes who can calm down a bad situation by hitting the gaps are pretty important.

I guess, Kalllis would hv been more valuable to a team that has more stroke players to bring value rather than B'lore which already has Dravid & Cpaul .... thats one of the points that i m making, i.e. taking Kallis in conjunction with other players in B'lore

cheers

If SA had Kallis they may have beaten India. He would have been the perfect guy in that chase of 150.

Instead they collapsed and RP Singh **** all over them.

Kallis is so valuable you go for him no matter who you already have. Anyways, these guys have more talent in their little fingers than all these so called flash in the pan master blasters. This will become clear once the tournament starts.

I can't understand the logic here

If someone says that Kallis is not that gr8 of 20T then does it hv to imply that 'flash in the pan master blasters' are better? 8-)

thats a flawed assumption, IMO .... No where did anyone say that B'lore should hv gone for a slogger or whatever in place of Kallis .... if you even look at the options that I gave, the guys are all amongst the top batsmen

What i m recommending is fluent stroke makers like Hayden, Gilly, Ponting, Tendulkar, etc in place of someone like Kallis. And not Afridi .... thats coz B'lore has too many Kallis types in their line up .... And 'yes' variety is important in a line up, if you know its value

cheers

someone wisely said that if 'IFs' and 'BUTs' were pots and pans then there would be no tinkers

someone can argue back that he would hv gone for a duck 8-)

I would take Kallis over all those batsmen for his bowling ability. He's the best all-rounder in the world, once you see that things become a lot clearer. If I had the opportunity to take one of those four ahead of him if only batting was considered would I do it? Probably, but the difference isn't that great to complain about. And when bowling comes into it, it's no question.

And someone could argue that, based on the vast information we have at our disposal from watching and analysing cricket in the past, he would have been the perfect man for the job.

IMO, Blore has some decent bowlers in its line up .... A natural strokermaker would hv been a better option for it than Kallis

yep and i guess that 'analysis' would hv also pointed that Ind would hv won that WC instead of a team like OZ 8-)

Point? Granted sometimes logical predictions don't go to plan, especially in sport, but it doesn't mean we should throw sense out the window. Jono's point of Kallis being there could have seen a different outcome for SA in the WC is a valid one. Just like I reckon had Australia picked White, things may have been different for us as well. That's not complaining about the outcome, that's using proper cricketing analysis together with hindsight to make as fairly accurate a deduction that you'll ever get.

From what I've seen, having a couple good bowlers in Twenty20s just doesn't cut it as part timers end up getting targeted and get murdered. The option of having Kallis as a fifth bowler is invaluable and certainly makes up the debatable gap with your so called better stroke makers.

thats what i m doing when i say that Kallis would not hv made a difference in that D/Ner at Durban and that he is not the right pick for B'lore in 20T considering the type of players B'lore has

Anyways, let's not try to shove each others opinion down each others throats, coz this is only increasing my post count and i believe in quality over quantity :) .... i guess, we got each others point

cheers
