Dhoni's slow, grafting knocks may have been useful in the last few games, but he really played the wrong role here. When your team needs around 8 an over, striking at 54 over 66 balls is pretty much unacceptable. Especially when everyone else who scored runs was scoring at a good rate with ease. He needs to learn how to manage these kind of innings better.
I thought he had a reputation of a big hitter but so far hes just just been a prodder and grafter. Bit disappotined. Maybe he just cant hit top quality bowlling.

If that was the case, we'd see him try to hit out and fail. We haven't seen that. He's been very good in the circumstances so far this series, suprisingly adapting himself to his new role. His innings yesterday was poor but wasn't an result of him not being able to hit out. Evidently he ended up too slow but it wasn't because he couldn't score quicker.

DWTA.

Always reckon that if you can change you game to suit a situation, then you're a better player than someone who's one-dimensional.

I mean, come on guys. The score was 4-50. He and Gambir did a first class job to get them close from that position. I would have thought that if he played differently it could have led to a complete rout. They made the highest ever chase at a ground which has been hosting ODIs for 30 years - no mean feat that.
I can't help but be impressed by Dhoni this ODI series, and his keeping all summer has been absolutely first rate.
I just think sometimes we expect too much.

Twas a good one.

Saw the first part of the Aussie innings at a barbie yesterday.

After his 1st ball, one of blokes said straight up "Ponting'll get a ton today".

His footwork was that good, you'd think it was a different player to the one who's struggled recently.

Whatever it takes!!!
good fight from India. Didn't think they will get anywhere after being 4-51.

I hope India can drop Sehwag and pick Chawla.. That way, I think we will have a really strong side.. I don't even mind if they drop Bhajji for Chawla.. Yesterday, Chawla could have been our dark horse in those conditions in the middle overs.

And funny that Ishant gets fined when Symonds, who initiated, doesn't. Ravi Shastri mentioned on air yesterday that Ponting was straight into the umpires' ears telling them to talk to Ishant, I guess he is just blind about the things that are done by his team mates... Expected, really. Anyways, I guess we have to give the umpires the benefit here, as Symonds may not have said anything THAT bad and maybe they deemed what Ishant said was worse.. But again, seeing how Symonds behaves, that is hard to believe.....

And on the topic of racism, I do think there is a difference between Symonds being called a "monkey" (mostly because of how he acts, see how a Walsh or a Lara or a Richards never had a problem in India and are basically worshipped over here) and a Lehmann calling the whole Sri Lankan team by the b and c- word.

I'll send the memo out to Dhoni that he should try and hit 4s to please you.

I reckon if he comes in with his team at 4/160, Dhoni will start batting like he did in 2005-06. But he's the captain now, he has to take some responsibility.

Its so obvious that Dhoni is going to be the new Sachin for the next 10 years, and I obviously don't mean that as in an all-time great batsman because Dhoni has a ridiculous long way to go before he's even a good test batsman. But he's going to be on the receiving end of a lot of criticism from fans when India don't win, simply because of the expectations put on him due to his fame and popularity.

Get ready for a wild ride Dhoni. You'll have the money and fame, but you'll also have some absolute crap written about you from now on.

Givent he problems India have had with their top order, Kartik must be a dire player not to even be considered by a lot of people. Has he gone off the boil or is he meh?

He's never been very good at one day cricket at all, really. He's been given a few chances as a batsman in that format and failed. He's in the squad as the reserve keeper.

I know Ravi said that, but seriously, the umpires went straight to Sharma when it happened. There wasn't even a delayed reaction on their part. They went there so quickly that, if Ponting was communicating with them to intervene, he must have done it telepathically.

Ponting and Harby (of all people) were apparently having a chat at the bowlers end (amicably) while the umps talked to Ishant.

Maybe he got fined and Symonds didn't because it was him who initiated it. For his part, no matter who started it, Symonds needs to learn to just walk off ffs.

I dunno, just because a commentator says it was so, doesn't make it so. Problem now is that after what happened in the test, every little incident like this becomes a big deal. If there hadn't been the previous incident, no doubt this wouldn't even be an issue atm.

Ta for that. If they were going to mess around with the top order then, who would they bring in? The problem now is, so close to the finals, a number of the alternatives (Kartik included) haven't had any cricket.

Sorry Burgey but this is bugging me.

Dinesh Karthik = reserve wicket keeper, former opener for India
Murali Kartik = left arm orthodox bowler

It's India's version of Michael Clarke and Stuart Clark :p

Although I think India should've been more direct and singled out Symonds -
he seems to be the rabble rousing common denominator present at the
outset of many major altercations - Sreesanth, Harbhajan, now Ishant incidents.

Also wonder what the heck he was doing making public statements on not touring
Pakistan, at a clearly sensitive time on the topic. Seems to enjoy baiting other
people?

This ain't exactly news. Symonds has been an antagonist since, well, he picked up a cricket ball no doubt.

And yet so many people blindly support him no matter what he does.
